LEGO Technic summer 2024 rumours include $450 supercar, NASA and recolours

This summer’s LEGO Technic sets are rumoured to include a new $450 supercar, another model inspired by NASA and multiple recolours.

Prepare your wallets: a total of nine different LEGO Technic sets are thought to be on the way in summer 2024, with two-thirds of those weighing in at triple figures. Instagram user Itavix reports (via brick_clicker) that the Technic summer wave will be headlined by a new McLaren supercar ringing in at $449.99, while at the cheaper end of the spectrum will be two different colour options of the same Koenigsegg hypercar.

42172 McLaren Supercar is presumably positioned as the next entry in the biennial subtheme of Technic supercars, which so far includes 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, 42083 Bugatti Chiron, 42115 Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 and 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3. The LEGO Group is already going big on McLaren across Icons, Speed Champions and Technic in the first half of 2024, so it’s no major surprise to see it listed as the manufacturer behind the next 1:8-scale supercar.

Also on the dock for petrolheads this summer are 42176 Porsche GT4 E-performance RC Race Car, 42173 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar, 42184 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut White Hypercar and 42196 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica Orange, the latter of which is presumably a recoloured version of last year’s lime green 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica. Those colour variants suggest last summer’s 42162 Bugatti Bolide Agile Blue – a fresh spin on 2022’s yellow version – has performed pretty well.

Away from the world of automobiles, the rest of the LEGO Technic summer 2024 line-up is rumoured to include two 18+ vehicles – one simply codenamed ‘water’, the other ‘4×4’ – 42175 Volvo FMX Truck & EC230 Electric Excavator, and 42182 NASA Apollo Lunar Rover, which follows on from 2023’s 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance. The 2024 set is said to be an 18+ model, however, while Perseverance is only 10+. (It’s also rumoured to cost an extra $130.)
