Does LEGO Tory Story 4 10769 Toy Story 4 RV Vacation set have other qualities that make up for its mish-mash of two scales?

The toys are back in town for the fourth instalment in Pixar’s longest running franchise, with Toy Story 4 promising a rather eventful road trip. As the name implies, LEGO 10769 Toy Story 4 RV Vacation recreates Bonnie’s family camper, although with more animated proportions, and with quite a few open windows – so certain toys can jump out of a moving vehicle.
A new large 6×16 chassis piece has been moulded for this set so building the caravan takes very little time at all. Even if it doesn’t have particularly realistic proportions, there is still relevant detailing like a licence plate complete with front grille. There are plenty of role-playing features included, which are easily accessible as one side of the caravan is open and the roof is removable. The only slight issue is scale – put Rex next to it and you have Jurassic Park instead of Toy Story 4.
As an environment, the little park is quite basic but does tie in with the film. The signpost has a printed brick that may prove useful for holiday builds and the A-mast lattice appears in reddish brown for the first time. All of the camping features of the park are simple designs but they work effectively, particularly the bench which is made from brown tiles attached onto a grey 4×6 inverted roof brick.
Even though he’s not a minifigure, new character Forky is a standout in 10769 Toy Story 4 RV Vacation, with a fantastic facial expression and arms that manage to look like real pipe-cleaners. Jessie is a little disappointing as her hat blends in too much with her red hair, and with a normal minifigure head she doesn’t really look like a toy doll. Both Rex and the Pizza Planet alien use existing moulds but with different printing to previous versions.
Even at full price, 10769 Toy Story 4 RV Vacation is a very fun set that has a highly desirable cast of characters, and any gaps within the model are easily filled in by the imagination – or more bricks.
