LEGO Wicked's decision to embrace mini-dolls may not be for everyone, but there are good reasons why they might be the future of LEGO figures.
That's not to say that minifigures are going anywhere – they're simply too iconic – but it's entirely surprising to see Wicked and Wednesday opting for mini-dolls rather than minifigures. It's an interesting topic of discussion for the LEGO community to debate and one that Matthew is up to the task of exploring in our latest YouTube video.
Mini-dolls aren't necessarily a replacement for minifigures and in some aspects, are more limited than minifigures. They don't have quite as much movement, for instance. Despite this, they fit the proportions of Wicked and Wednesday's characters better than minifigures, though most characters aren't as fitting for minifigures over mini-dolls no matter the franchise.
The sets for Wicked and Wednesday have also benefited from the decision to use mini-dolls over minifigures and you can find out exactly what we mean by watching our new video. You might want to reconsider your stance on mini-dolls unless you're a fellow enthusiast of the more recent kind of LEGO figure.
Whether you prefer minifigures or mini-dolls, there's room for both in the LEGO portfolio in the future and there's no reason that mini-dolls should be limited to solely LEGO Friends. Still, we can only hope for Wicked and Wednesday minifigure at some point as part of this new partnership.
Both themes are out now in the October 2024 selection of new LEGO sets and there's still time to grab a free Halloween gift-with-purchase at the time of writing.
