LEGO Zelda Final Battle is one of designer’s ‘biggest life goals’
The designer behind 77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle has revealed how creating the new LEGO Zelda set was the fulfilment of a lifelong dream.
The LEGO Group announced its second The Legend of Zelda set this week, with 77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle inspired by the classic Nintendo 64 video game. Following the model’s reveal, the designer of the upcoming set has taken to social media to reveal just what the creation of the new build means to him.
“When the Great Deku Tree came out, I didn’t really say much because it was sort of hard to believe Zelda LEGO, one of my biggest life goals, had happened,” said Wes Talbott on Instagram. “It feels very poetic and I feel so ridiculously fortunate to have had the opportunity to design LEGO sets depicting both the beginning and the end of my absolute favourite game, in my favourite game franchise, and the one piece of media that has inspired me creatively more than any other.”

Wes’ LEGO The Legend of Zelda journey began when the future designer’s Iron Knuckle Encounter submission was rejected from the Winter 2014 LEGO Ideas review stage, but ultimately led to him gaining a position working for the Danish company.
“I was introduced to Zelda through The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and fell in love immediately,” said Wes in a previous interview on LEGO.com. “Now, I’ve played and completed every main game. It’s a timeless story. It’s a world that felt so familiar yet could be retold in so many ways.”
Conceiving 77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle also reunited Wes with fellow LEGO designer and The Legend of Zelda superfan, Austin William Carlson. The latter returned with ‘character graphics he had essentially already predesigned a long time ago to make the most epic Zelda and Ganondorf minifigs, as well as bring the brick-built Ganon to life.’

“Working with the Zelda Design team from Nintendo on [77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle] was unreal,” Wes elaborated. “I started my career as one of you. You inspired me to build with LEGO again, a toy that allows you to make anything you want, and we did it! Take these sets and these figures and go play, build, and design your own sets based on whatever your heart desires, you never know what could come of it someday.”
77093 Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle will launch on March 1 priced at £99.99 in the UK, $129.99 in the US and €119.99 in Europe, with the LEGO The Legend of Zelda set now available to pre-order.
