LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham chooses Master Builder

The soon to open LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham now has a Master Model Builder.

Michelle Thompson will be the Master Model Builder at the UK’s second LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, which will open in Birmingham this July. As part of the application process, Michelle built a set of musical notes and the famous Bullring Bull using LEGO bricks. Over 7,000 applications were received for the unique role, with only 2% from women.

“It all still feels a little surreal if I’m honest,” Michelle told Birmingham Live. “I’ve been playing with LEGO for as long as I can remember – now I’m going to be paid to play!”

“LEGO has always provided me as an outlet for my creativity, especially as a child. Now I hope to inspire and inject the same passion I’ve conjured up over the years to many, many others,” she added. “My desk is well-decorated with lots of LEGO mini-figures so it’s no secret they all know I have a love of LEGO and kept saying that this had my name written all over it.”

The avid builder applied after colleagues at her current job mentioned seeing the giant minifigure character, Bertie, wandering around Birmingham New Street train station to promote the new role.

“Michelle blew us away at her interview and quite simply, her desire to inspire others couldn’t be matched. She’s creative, has a lifetime love of LEGO and her passion radiated – right down to the LEGO cufflinks on her blouse,” Amy Langham, LEGOLAND Discovery Centre General Manager, told the website.
