LEGOLAND’s revenue grew in 2023 after a year of investment

Merlin Entertainments made investing in LEGOLAND parks and resorts a priority in 2023 and has been paid back with year-on-year growth.

Merlin Entertainments, the company that runs various entertainment resorts around the world, including LEGOLAND parks and resorts, has shared its financial results for 2023, following in the footsteps of the LEGO Group. For LEGOLAND Parks specifically, the company reports that revenue was up by 1% year-on-year, reaching £914m.

This growth was reportedly driven by advances at LEGOLAND Japan and Europe, especially with LEGOLAND Deutschland launching the new LEGO MTHICA area. What’s more, North America has particularly good trading in the first half of the year thanks to “the normalisation of consumer demand”.

LEGOLAND appears to be a central pillar for Merlin’s portfolio, having invested heavily in those parks in 2023, with the opening of the first LEGO Adventure Golf at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort and two new LEGO Discovery Centres in Atlanta and Washington DC. Europe saw the start of a successful Ferrari partnership with the launch of the LEGO Ferrari Build & Race experiences at both LEGOLAND Billund and LEGOLAND Windsor.

“Our solid financial performance is a testament to the passion of our 30,000 talented teammates around the world and the authentic, inspiring culture in which we work; the strength of the brands we are entrusted to bring to life, most notably the LEGO brand; the global breadth and depth of our attractions;…and our deep commitment to creating lifelong memories for guests of all ages and abilities, while driving positive impact in the communities in which we live, work, and play,” said CEO of Merline Entertainments Scott O’Neil.

“We intend to continue our growth momentum by driving an increasingly premium position at LEGOLAND Resorts, making calculated investments in resorts with outsized potential, and growing our Gateway Attractions division, strengthening our presence through ‘mega-clusters’ in the world’s most important tourist cities that show long-term visitation growth.”

From the sound of this quote, LEGOLAND was and has been a driving force for Merlin Entertainments, a good sign for those who like to visit in-person LEGO-themed attractions run by the global company.
