LEGO’s new Dune set debuts game-changing windshield piece

Another new windshield is debuting in LEGO Icons 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter and it might be a game-changer for LEGO spaceships.

The LEGO Group’s lengthy history of uniquely shaped windshield elements is getting a little bit longer in 2024 thanks to 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter. Though it uses a mostly familiar range of LEGO pieces and a specialised cloak, there’s at least one new part in the first LEGO Dune set.

The front of the Ornithopter model uses a trio of windshield elements to best capture the signature front of the vehicle. However, one of these appears to be a brand-new piece.

The new element matches the shape of the Ornithopter but it’s design is just generic enough for it to be featured in other sets when the moment suits. It’s most similar to the curved windshield piece used in many older LEGO Star Wars Jedi Starfighter models but with a polygonal shape similar to larger and more recent elements.

There seems to be a four-stud gap between standard connection points on the bottom front and pack, with the piece integrated into the front of 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter, facing down.

To our knowledge, 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter is the only LEGO set to include this piece but its size and shape might make it a game-change to LEGO spaceships in the future.

While we wait to see where else it surfaces, you can await the arrival of 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter on February 1, 2024, for £149.99 / $164.99 / €164.99 – around a month before the Dune sequel releases.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
