Lightyear Director made the movie for one new LEGO brick

Angus MacLane, the director of Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear, has admitted that he made the film for a new LEGO Space piece.

In the world of LEGO, Angus MacLane is known for a few projects from the creation of Cubedudes on his Flickr page to submitting the project that inspired the LEGO Ideas 21303 WALL-E model. However, he’s also the director of the upcoming Lightyear movie from Disney and Pixar, which is scheduled to receive a range of three LEGO sets.

Taking to Twitter shortly after their announcement, Angus explained that the desire for new transparent yellow canopies acted as motivation for making the movie.

Whether or not the director is serious about this being a reason for producing Lightyear, a second post showcases their genuine excitement for the element, suggesting that they are at the very least satisfied with 76832 XL-15 Spaceship.

While we’re sure it’s not the only motivation behind Lightyear, it’s still interesting to know that the animated film was swayed in some way by the motivation for a new transparent canopy piece from a longtime member of the online LEGO community.

The range of Lightyear LEGO Disney sets includes three models, with a brick-built figure of Zurg being one of them. You can find out more details such as prices and their release date in our initial report.

Lightyear is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 17, 2022.
