The Disney Pixar Lightyear LEGO sets might offer potential for Classic Space models

The April 2022 range of LEGO Disney Pixar Lightyear sets offers potential for modern Classic Space models such as new spaceships and primary-colour robots.

The new selection of LEGO Disney Pixar models based on Lightyear, which releases in June 2022, not only revisits the Toy Story character with a more realistic design for his solo film but might be appealing to those with no interest in the animated movie.

As confirmed as intentional by the director, Angus MacLane, Lightyear includes elements in the story and character designs that correspond to LEGO space sets, even down to the new yellow canopy element.

Beyond that fresh cockpit brick though, the three Lightyear sets have more to offer Classic Space fans. For example, 76830 Zyclops Chase includes a robot, named a Zyclops made of mostly yellow pieces. With some modifications, this could be adapted to be either a mech or a service robot for a Classic Space base, piloted by the squadron of yellow-suited astronauts.

Outside of LEGO Space, the non-Space Ranger chest and helmet armour elements seen in 76830 Zyclops Chase and 76832 XL-15 Spaceship appear to be rugged enough to fit in with other sci-fi themes including Star Wars.

Whatever potential you might have spotted in the LEGO Disney Pixar Lightyear sets, the full range will be available from April 24, 2022, on the official online store.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
