Live-action LEGO NINJAGO movie in the works at Universal
LEGO NINJAGO animated series writers will reportedly helm a team working to bring the brick-built ninjas to life in a live-action movie.
Disney has been steadily recreating all its old classics with live-action remakes and now it seems LEGO franchises want to get in on the action, starting with LEGO NINJAGO. Kevin and Dan Hageman, the writers of the first several seasons of the animated NINJAGO TV series, have been signed on to develop a live-action movie about the LEGO ninjas, as reported by Deadline. The brothers also worked on The LEGO Movie and the animated LEGO NINJAGO movie.
The LEGO Group and Universal both have teams of producers collaborating on the project, including Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians for the LEGO Group and Universal’s Executive Vice President of Production Development Matt Reilly and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell. This comes alongside news that Jumanji’s Jake Kasdan, Wonder Woman and Rogue Squadron’s Patty Jenkins, Hot Fuzz’s Joe Cornish are also reported to be directing live-action LEGO movies, the details of which are not yet known.

There’s no word yet on what the plot of the live-action movie will be but safe to say we can expect to see our ninjas quite literally like never before. The news of the film comes hot on the heels of Universal’s most recent collaboration with the LEGO Group, Pharrell William’s animated LEGO biopic, Piece by Piece – now available to stream in the US.
Despite not enjoying the success Universal and the LEGO Group might have hoped for, this news confirms that LEGO movies are still in the works in some form. Live-action would mean there’s surely less LEGO to be seen on-screen than with animated minifigures but we’re hoping there will still be the same LEGO-fied humour that fans have come to know and love.
There’s no word yet on when the live-action LEGO NINJAGO movie will be available to watch but, considering this announcement just outlines the production team, it’s likely a long way off still.

No…some animated shows don’t need live action remakes! Disney learned the hard way…I hope Universal doesn’t have to!
