Classic Marvel character rumoured to make LEGO debut in 2024

A classic Marvel character is rumoured to be making his LEGO debut in 2024 – but probably not in the way you might have expected.

Across more than a decade of LEGO Marvel sets inspired by both comic books and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are still plenty of characters who have somehow never made their way into minifigure form (even while we all have 15 Captain Americas and 50 Iron Men). One of those is Arnim Zola, a Nazi scientist who was portrayed by Toby Jones in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger.

Zola is now said to be making his LEGO debut in one of next year’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends sets, which is likely to be worlds away from resembling Jones or the MCU version of the character. That’s because he appears in the kid-friendly Spider-Man show in his final form: a robot housing the genetic engineer’s consciousness that communicates through a screen on its chest.

2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier alluded to that zany appearance by placing Zola’s consciousness in a computer terminal, but we never quite reached the full robot body in the MCU. If you were expecting something plain and simple for Arnim Zola’s first-ever LEGO minifigure, perhaps in an Infinity Saga set, you would apparently be wrong – at least according to Instagram user exabrickslegogo_ (via mtdbricks).

Those sources report that Zola will pop up in 10794, a 4+ set based on Spidey and His Amazing Friends, where he’ll be accompanied by Iron Man. The 193-piece model is said to retail for €54.99 and hit shelves on March 1. According to mtdbricks, Zola will also show up in the cheaper 10793 – which is rumoured to cost €19.99 for 84 pieces – while the wave’s smallest set 10792 will reportedly include Electro (who is actually Francine Frye in the TV series).

Zola’s appearance in Spidey and His Amazing Friends is much closer to his comic book roots, standing tall as a huge orange and purple mech with a vivid green face. We’ve already seen something similar envisaged in minifigure form in the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes video games, but given Zola’s size in Spidey and His Amazing Friends, there is an outside chance the LEGO Group could opt for a bigger brick-built character.

That’s if these rumours are true at all – for now, take them with a pinch of salt. And Zola’s supposed inclusion across these sets hopefully still doesn’t rule out another LEGO Marvel debut from the Fantastic Four’s The Thing…

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
