More details on rumoured LEGO How to Train Your Dragon 2025 set

More details have surfaced on the rumoured LEGO How to Train Your Dragon 2025 set, and it sounds like the LEGO Group is hoping to tap into a slightly older audience than initially expected.

The animated adventures include three feature films, five short films and three TV series, and while the first film originally debuted in 2010, this is still a family-friendly franchise – but the rumoured LEGO tie-in set is now thought to be arriving under the LEGO Icons banner, which likely means it will have an 18+ tag on the box.

That’s according to Instagram user a.clay.brick, who also says that the model will consist of a buildable Toothless without any minifigures. We’re ostensibly looking at a display model targeted towards adults, then – those with nostalgic memories of watching the first movie in cinemas as kids a decade and a half ago.

It’s a path the LEGO Group has taken previously with franchises aimed first and foremost at kids, churning out 18+ sets for Winnie the Pooh and Sesame Street under the LEGO Ideas theme, for instance. It wouldn’t be prompted by the community this time, though: instead, the springboard for launching a LEGO How to Train Your Dragon set is presumably the live-action remake scheduled to debut on June 13, 2025.

That’s all we have to go on at the minute, but it does give us an idea of what to expect from LEGO How to Train Your Dragon (which is to say, not a full theme). The price, piece count and specific release date for the rumoured Icons model have yet to be reported.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
