My LEGO June 1 strategy: one big set, many small builds
My shopping strategy for June 1 focuses on one of two big builds, then filling in the order with smaller models that won’t get huge sales.
June 1 is almost here, and with it comes dozens of new LEGO sets from across a wide variety of themes in the portfolio. It’s always good to go into major release days with some kind of plan, and my strategy for Sunday all revolves around one of two sets, while taking the opportunity to pick up less expensive builds for which I wouldn’t benefit from discounts as much.
As an avid NINJAGO fan, I’m ecstatic that the theme is exploring display sets with diorama-style bases in 71846 The Fire Knight Mech and 71847 The Guardian Dragon. I’m not sure whether I want both, or at least which one I want to start with, since they offer a vastly different display experience.

On the one hand, 71846 The Fire Knight Mech is a less expensive model at £109.99 / $119.99 / €119.99 for 996 pieces, and the impressive mech model can be detached from the base, ready to be used as a standard NINJAGO mech brimming with detail. Conversely, 71847 The Guardian Dragon is much better with 1,650 pieces for £139.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 and undoubtedly offers a much better display.
This decision will certainly influence how much I spend on launch day, but either way, I have a selection of much smaller models that I intend to add to my order, ones where major discounts won’t save me as much due to their low price.
NINJAGO’s 71838 Kai’s Motorcycle Speed Race is a must-have for the new and recent elements for the price of £8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99, and another villain vehicle will always be a useful addition to my collection.
Speaking of useful additions to collections, LEGO Star Wars’ 75400 Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter Microfighter is sure to be popular come Sunday for that exclusive Plo Koon minifigure. Comparing it to the older version showcases just how inaccurate the older element was, and I’m ecstatic to update my Jedi display with this inexpensive purchase. The upcoming set costs £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99.

Continuing the appreciation for smaller sets, the 154-piece 42642 Friendship Movie Night is adorable and functional for only £12.99 / $14.99 / €14.99. With its small footprint and different movie options, it’s going to be an ideal add-on to my LEGO park.
The last option for my June 1, 2025, plans is 71495 Mateo vs. Cyber Brain Mech for £24.99 / $34.99 / €29.99. LEGO DREAMZzz sets have a history of receiving major discounts, but I can’t wait to pick up this more affordable model in the new wave and grab those new elements. The aesthetic of the villains in this wave is also appealing and substantially different to other seasons of LEGO DREAMZzz.
