New LEGO Ideas 21345 Polaroid camera has competition in 2024

LEGO photography enthusiasts are well-catered in 2024 as LEGO Ideas 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera has competition from the start.

Those waiting for a new life-sized LEGO camera in 2024 are in for a treat. Both 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera and 31147 Retro Camera are launching on January 1 and may provide some competition to one another.

Both models depict cameras, but of entirely different specifications with much different piece counts and prices. 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera comes with 516 pieces for £69.99 / $79.99 / €79.99 and 31147 Retro Camera has 261 elements for £17.99 / $19.99 / €19.99.

With that said, it cannot be denied that the two share some similarities. Both come with non-plastic elements including a strap in the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 model and the three photos in the LEGO Ideas set. Both also depict a camera of some kind, with 31147 Retro Camera coming in at a much lower price to boot.

It’s undoubtedly less expensive, but whether 31147 Retro Camera will affect 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera or vice versa is up for debate as they appear to be targeting different audiences with varying levels of details and functionality too. For instance, the LEGO Creator set can be rebuilt into a TV or a video camera, unlike the LEGO Ideas model.

Ultimately, the many differences in the builds as well as the prices between 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera and 31147 Retro Camera mean that the two are unlikely to get in each other’s way next month.

With this in mind, we’ll note that 43230 Walt Disney Tribute Camera is available now for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 too. While it’s not a photography camera, it proves that the LEGO Group’s designers across various themes are surprisingly camera-focused at the moment.

For photography and camera enthusiasts alike, 2024 is looking to be a great time for new LEGO sets, including the chance to catch up on the Disney model. While 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera and 31147 Retro Camera are launching on January 1, only the LEGO Ideas build is available to pre-order now ahead of release.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
