The new LEGO The Goonies sets are made for each other, in more ways than one, thanks to an essential Easter egg for movie buffs.
LEGO Ideas 21363 The Goonies is less than a week away, as is its exclusive gift-with-purchase, but there's an extra incentive to be an early adopter this time, thanks to an ingenious easter egg. 40773 The Goonies: The Walshes' Attic includes the pirate painting from the film, in which Mouth pokes his mouth through.
By using a specific colour of element, the LEGO designers have masterfully allowed fans to recreate this moment, as long as they own both 21363 The Goonies and 40773 The Goonies: The Walshes' Attic. The transparent tall window panel, combined with the painting decoration, allows for Mouth's alternate face print from the LEGO Ideas set to appear as if his tongue is poking through, just like in the film.
It's a clever additional feature in 40773 The Goonies: The Walshes' Attic, and while it does require the larger 21363 The Goonies, the only official method of obtaining the gift-with-purchase is by acquiring the LEGO Ideas set during its first week of availability.
Given that the most dedicated of The Goonies fans will have both of these builds when it launches later this week, this specific reference is a great touch from the LEGO designers, but it is somewhat lacking if you manage to pick up one set and not the other.
Anyone aiming to recreate the photos from our review of the gift-with-purchase will want to make sure they pick up 21363 The Goonies later this week for £269.99 / $329.99 / €299.99. It launches on November 1 for LEGO Insiders or November 1 widely, with the gift-with-purchase available between November 1 and 7 while stocks last. Official imagery reveals that the two sets look together on display, for the ultimate LEGO tribute to The Goonies.
