New LEGO VIP discount system now live in the UK

The LEGO Group’s revamped VIP discount system has finally gone live in the UK, simplifying the process of spending your VIP points.

In times past, you’d need to make a definitive decision when redeeming your LEGO VIP points for a discount voucher: do you want to spend it at LEGO.com or in a LEGO Store? Those two different channels for £5, £20, £50 and £100 vouchers have now been merged into a single ‘omnichannel discount’ in the UK, which is among the latest countries to receive the new system as part of a staggered roll-out.

Nothing else has changed in the process of using discount vouchers, which means you’ll still need to plan ahead and redeem your points for a code (rather than directly at the point of purchase, as per the old system) – but this slight tweak to redemptions should at least make things a little more straightforward. If you’ve recently redeemed a channel-specific voucher (but not spent it yet), the points will have been returned to your account.

The new system should now be live in the following countries: Hungary, Australia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, New Zealand, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Japan, Ireland, Switzerland, Portugal, Norway, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Spain, the UK, Poland, Sweden and Denmark.

That leaves only the US, Canada, Mexico – all of which will receive the update in August – and France, which was originally intended to be included in the July 12 update alongside Austria, Germany, Spain and Belgium, but has since been postponed indefinitely.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
