New pieces debut in LEGO Formula 1 sets from Speed Champions and more

The LEGO Formula 1 2025 sets for Speed Champions and a range of collectible cars are debuting some new racing-centric pieces.

Now that we've had the chance to properly stew over the the reveal of the full LEGO Formula 1 range for 2025, including models in City, Speed Champions, DUPLO and much more, we've some spotted some exciting new elements.

These seem to only be included in 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars and the 10 Speed Champions race cars, but they should transform the way we build Formula 1 cars for years to come. All 12 miniature cars in 71049 F1 Collectible Race Cars have four new elements – a front wing with a single stud connection point, a foundation of some kind with what might be attachment points for four wheels (or those attachment points could be a fifth new piece).

There's also a new handlebar element used to depict the protective halo from the cars as well as the helmets that also feature in the Speed Champions models next year.

Speaking of Speed Champions, there are three new pieces to look forward to next year across all 10 builds. The wheel tethers use a new piece with a sticker applied to them in some cases. This includes a small cover as well and while they will likely be specific to F1 cars in the future, they are much more accurate than the assembly in 76919 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Car.

The rear wheels are wider than the existing front wheel element in the Speed Champions sets too, and the same can be said of the larger wheels in 10353 Williams Racing FW14B & Nigel Mansell. This follows the debut of 10330 McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna and its larger, thinner wheel piece which was used inaccurately across the entirety of the vehicle. Comparing the two in the 2025 set, the difference is staggering.
