One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda gets a special LEGO gift

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda got a special brick-built chest from the LEGO Group, with a fitting brick-built gift inside.

In a video shared to the official One Piece Netflix social accounts, manga artist and creator of the One Piece comic series Eiichiro Oda opened up a brick-built chest, sent by the LEGO Group. Inside is a LEGO Gomu Gomu no Mi, or Gum-Gum Fruit.

When eaten, this fruit enables the user’s body to stretch, as happens with Luffy in One Piece. The LEGO version appears to be larger than life, with pink bricks used to help the swirl markings stand out on the purple background.

“Wow, incredible! A Gum Gum Fruit!” exclaimed Oda. “It’s amazing, it even has the patterns. I like it, thank you. I’m so happy.”

This gift and teaser could be a sign that the confirmed LEGO One Piece theme is soon to be revealed. There’s not yet been any official confirmation of a release date, but earlier rumours suggested they would be coming in August of this year.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
