Other colours were considered for LEGO Icons 10337 Lamborghini Countach

The LEGO Icons team has revealed that other colours were considered for the upcoming 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole.

The next LEGO Icons model to race onto store shelves will be 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole, a 1,506-piece build priced at £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99. The set releases exclusively for LEGO Insiders on July 1, 2024 and for everyone else on July 4.

Recreating a ’70s motoring classic10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole features the supercar’s iconic scissor doors, which open upwards, a detailed cockpit, brick-built V12 engine and instantly recognisable wedge-shaped shell.

While 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole matches the overall look of 76908 Lamborghini Countach, its smaller LEGO Speed Champions cousin, white wasn’t the only colour considered for the set.

In a recent roundtable interview, Brick Fanatics had the opportunity to talk with the LEGO Icons team about 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole, where they revealed the reasons behind the car’s chosen colour scheme.

“We tried a couple of colours” said senior model designer Sven Franic, “the Countach was produced in blue and green variations and there were a lot of more iconic colours for an earlier version. While there are different colours of the car out there, they’re not always easy to replicate in LEGO (pieces).”

“White was just something that worked,” continued Sven. “It was the colour that most car enthusiasts chose and it was one that both we and (Lamborghini) agreed on. The colour was also featured in a lot of movies, but I do have a black version of the model on my desk at work that has gold wheels!”

“For any colours that are not as commonly represented in our portfolio, it is a bit of a bigger investment to get a whole car in that colour. This is purely my personal take, not a general opinion of anyone at LEGO, but a lot of the colours we’ve tried on cars didn’t quite hit the mark,” Sven revealed. “(Some models) tended to look a bit toyish when they’re yellow, or other colours that don’t actually work as well as you would imagine when you replicate (the look) of a real car.”

10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole will launch on July 1, 2024 for Insiders members, with a wider release taking place from July 4. The LEGO Icons model will retail for £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99 and be available to purchase from LEGO.com and LEGO Stores. To find out more about the racing set, be sure to check out our full review here.
