Perfect pairings for LEGO Super Mario 71426 Piranha Plant

LEGO Super Mario’s latest set should fit well in a variety of displays inspired by botany, Super Mario characters and Super Smash Bros.

Coming on November 6 for £57.99 / $59.99 / €64.99, 71426 Piranha Plant is the newest 18+ LEGO Super Mario set depicting the toothy enemy emerging from a green pipe. Despite its lack of functionality with the LEGO Super Mario app like every other set in the theme, it connects to the range in many other ways.

Following its reveal, some potential displays for this set may be more obvious than others but there are a few ideas that you may have missed.

Upscaled LEGO Super Mario figures

As a huge LEGO Super Mario set depicting a single character, the ideal pairing is with 71411 The Mighty Bowser but similarly huge figures are included in the retired 71409 Big Spike’s Cloudtop Challenge and 71412 Big Bad Island, both of which are currently on sale on LEGO.com for 30% off in the UK and Europe.

Potted plastic plants

We’ve touched on how perfectly absurd 71426 Piranha Plant is for the LEGO Botanical Collection previously but it’s worth noting the topic again to highlight the collection’s potted plant models – 10311 Orchid, 10289 Bird of Paradise and the 40588 Flowerpot GWP.

Super Smash Bros. Fighters

One of the more interesting displays to make when 71426 Piranha Plant is available is an array of Super Smash Bros. fighters made out of LEGO. Featuring more than a few characters from LEGO Super Mario as well as the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, PAC-MAN and Minecraft’s Steve and Alex, you’ll need quite a few sets for this idea.

Alternatively, sticking to Super Smash Bros. LEGO figures near the same scale as 71426 Piranha Plant, 71411 The Mighty Bowser, 21148 Steve BigFig with Parrot, 21149 Alex BigFig with Chicken should suffice until the LEGO Group ventures into other games.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
