Proper LEGO building is coming to LEGO Fortnite
LEGO Fortnite experiences are about to get a lot more in-depth, as individual element building is coming to the game later this month.
The latest batch of LEGO Fortnite news concerns the ability to create LEGO Islands. The only previous method of building in LEGO Fortnite was to use modular components, such as pre-built walls and furnishings, to create buildings or vehicles. The fact that they had to use pre-made modules made it more limiting than actual LEGO building.

Thankfully, this is going to be amended exactly two weeks from today, as individual element building will be added to LEGO Fortnite for creators to use.
There will be 50 elements in the first release, mostly including standard pieces and slopes, but they will still be enough to create some complex models to use in your LEGO Islands. As demonstrated in the trailer, these can create custom modules as well to snap together and make bigger buildings.
You’ll be able to find the LEGO Brick Editor under the ‘selection mode’ dropdown in the software, and you can change the colours of elements from a selection of 42 colours matching actual LEGO pieces.
The existing method of building in LEGO Fortnite will continue to be useful as this method is likely to remain in use within Brick Life and Odyssey. It would appear that the individual building method is only to be used in the Unreal Editor for now, which can be used to create LEGO Islands.
Pre-made assets using the new building system are coming to the Unreal Editor, as well. LEGO Bloom Tycoon comes with 200 new assets, featuring animals. These features land in the editor on June 17. Whether this is the ‘super’ news teased in the recent Fortnite blog post has not been confirmed.
Three new LEGO Fortnite sets are now available, most notably including one that is based on the existing modular building system – 77076 Durrr Burger Restaurant.
