Fresh rumours for the LEGO Super Mario 2024 summer wave echo earlier rumours that this year will bring a new start for the theme's starter packs.
Following the announcement last year that the entirety of the LEGO Super Mario catalogue of sets from May 2023 and earlier would be retired by the summer of 2024, we knew that big changes would be in store for the theme. What exactly that would look like is still unclear, but the latest flurry of rumours offers some more insight.
itavixbrix reports on Instagram, originally reported by brick_clicker, that a trio of new LEGO Super Mario starter courses are on the way this summer, one for each of the core characters of Mario, Luigi, and Peach. This suggests that the library of interactive sets is getting a revamp, combined with the report that the new digital figuress will most likely have USB charging and have some minor updates. It's still unknown what exactly these changes will be, but with more set names for the upcoming wave now appearing online, we're getting a clearer idea of what the theme could look like.
71433 The Goomba Treehouse

With a slightly increased price from $15.99 to $16.99, we now have a set name for 71433 The Goomba Treehouse. This would suggest we're getting a return of the brick-built mushroom creatures known as Goombas, a common and relatively easy-to-defeat enemy from the Super Mario universe. 71433 The Goomba Treehouse is the cheapest set in the wave by quite a way, suggesting it will be significantly smaller.
71334 Wigglers Course Crash

Next up is 71334 Wigglers Course Crash, with a rumoured price of $59.99. Wigglers are a type of slow-moving caterpillar that can be either allies or foes. When calm, they appear yellow with flowers or plants growing from their heads but they will turn red, lose their flowers, and run faster if jumped on or irritated.
71435 Peach’s Castle

With a rumoured price and piece count of $69.99 and 738 respectively, 71435 Peach’s Castle is even larger still. If the name is anything to go by, this set will visit the princess' home, as already covered by LEGO Super Mario back in 2022 with 71408 Princess Peach's Castle.
71436 King Boo's Haunted Mansion

Another major location, this time with a larger piece count of 932 and a higher price of $84.99 to match, 71436 King Boos Haunted Mansion is an often-seen enemy location. King Boo is a ghost king, identifiable by his golden crown, and his mansion is populated by his ghosts, with various spooky traps in the world of Super Mario world. These traps could offer some fun interactive features, if the LEGO Super Mario team chooses to make the most of them.
71437 Bowser’s Train

71437 Bowser’s Train appears to refer to what's more commonly known as the Bowser Express in Super Mario: a boss course and the fourth level in World Bowser in Super Mario 3D World. The train-style level is modelled after Bowser himself and leads to a battle with Pom Pom at the end, meaning we could see the return of the Pom Pom figure as first seen in 71419 Peach's Garden Balloon Ride - Expansion Set.
Here's a summary of all the rumoured set names, but remember that these are only rumours until we get an official confirmation from the LEGO Group.
