A major LEGO release day is right around the corner, when dozens of brand new sets will be available to purchase for the very first time. Here’s six of the best to look out for on August 1.
Walking into the LEGO Store on the first day of the month can be a little overwhelming – especially when that month is August, one of three (alongside January and June) that traditionally sees masses of new sets from across multiple themes debut on shelves. Knowing what to look out for is tricky, especially if you don’t spend every waking moment keeping tabs on all the new releases.
It’s even more difficult if you’re shopping from the comfort of your sofa, because you can’t physically take in all the new sets, and have to resort to browsing through the ‘new’ section (or going theme by theme). And even then, what’s coming August 1 and what’s already launched/is launching later is difficult to determine without clicking through to each individual set.
To make things a little simpler, we’ve collected together six of the best LEGO sets launching on August 1, across a wide variety of themes, interests and price points. Alternatively, click here for a complete list of everything arriving next month – and don’t forget to download the Brick Search app on Android or iOS and add your favourites to your wish list, ready for next Tuesday.
6 – 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica
Theme: LEGO Technic Price: £46.99 / $49.99 / €52.99 Pieces: 806

If you don’t have the space or budget for 42115 Lamborghini Sián FKP 37, how about a smaller – but just as spicy – lime green Lambo? 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica aims to plug that gap in the market come August 1, serving up one of the most attractive LEGO Technic cars at this scale and price point so far. Ideal if you also can’t quite stretch to next month’s major new Technic release…
5 – 21060 Himeji Castle
Theme: LEGO Architecture Price: £139.99 / $159.99 / €159.99 Pieces: 2,125

This year’s one and only LEGO Architecture set (so far, but likely at all) recreates a Japanese fortress in 21060 Himeji Castle, and in doing so continues the approach of last year’s
4 – 31142 Space Roller Coaster
Theme: LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Price: £94.99 / $109.99 / €104.99 Pieces: 874

Given how long ago they were originally revealed (May!), you’d be forgiven for forgetting three new LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets are coming out on August 1. While it’s not the biggest or most expensive of the trio, the star of the show is easily 31142 Space Roller Coaster, which offers a slightly more practical fairground model than last summer’s towering 10303 Loop Coaster. The space theming is just the icing on the cake.
3 – 76224 Batmobile: Batman vs The Joker Chase
Theme: LEGO DC Price: £42.99 / $47.99 / €47.99 Pieces: 438

If you also sat through The Flash in June, you’ll probably agree that one of the highlights of the movie was seeing Michael Keaton’s Batmobile back on the big screen – even if it didn’t actually do anything. You’ll soon be able to build a LEGO version of the 1989 car at minifigure scale for the second time (following the promotional version released alongside 76139 1989 Batmobile), as
2 – 10321 Corvette
Theme: LEGO Icons Price: £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 Pieces: 1,210

The latest large-scale vehicle has been hailed as ‘the sexiest car the LEGO Group has done’, and you can’t say fairer than that. 10321 Corvette captures an American motoring icon across 1,210 pieces, and while that includes elements for the roof, we’d wager that 99% of buyers are going to be displaying this beauty with the hood down. It’s one of two LEGO Icons sets racing on to shelves in August, alongside 10315 Tranquil Garden.
1 – 76261 Spider-Man Final Battle
Theme: LEGO Marvel Price: £94.99 / $109.99 / €104.99 Pieces: 900

Party like it’s late 2021 with the Spider-Man: No Way Home set we should have had all along, if not for Marvel doing its darndest to prevent spoiling the presence of three different web-slingers in its wall-crawling threequel. 76261 Spider-Man Final Battle packs Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men into one set, built around the still-under-construction Statue of Liberty, and already looks to be the superhero set of the summer.
