Six LEGO Marvel and DC helmets we could realistically see in 2023

Two more LEGO Marvel and DC helmets are supposedly on the way in 2023, so here are six realistic possibilities for characters that could genuinely make the cut.

Recent rumours posit that two new LEGO Marvel or DC helmets, cowls or busts will be joining the Super Heroes theme in 2023, priced at $70 and $80 respectively. There’s no word yet on who exactly these sets will represent, but it’s not like the LEGO Group is short on characters to pick from: so far, the superhero subtheme consists solely of Iron Man, Venom, Carnage and two different Batman cowls.

Unsurprisingly, our full wish list of sets to join the likes of 76187 Venom, 76182 Batman Cowl and 76165 Iron Man Helmet extends to, oh, pretty much every superhero under the sun. But for this list we’re concentrating only on those we could actually see happening in 2023, whether thanks to new film releases or their general standing within pop culture…

6 – Star-Lord

Between The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the spotlight is about to be placed back on Star-Lord and the gang in a big way. Peter Quill’s mask would make for a perfect LEGO helmet set, although you’d probably need to build out some of the back of his head too – so maybe it would be a mask/bust combo. Either way, count us in.

5 – Blue Beetle

One of four DC movies currently lined up for 2023 (although that could all change, and nobody would be surprised), Blue Beetle isn’t the most iconic superhero on this list – but he does have a unique helmet that would make for a great addition to the LEGO DC line-up. Plus, we’ve seen from 76187 Venom and 76199 Carnage that the LEGO Group isn’t afraid to prioritise movie tie-ins over better-known characters…

4 – Ant-Man

If any helmet on this list feels like a shoe-in for an official LEGO set, it’s Ant-Man’s. Perhaps the most anticipated Marvel movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home – and the first entry in Phase Five of the MCU – Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania promises to properly introduce big bad Kang the Conqueror, following his initial appearance in the Disney+ series Loki. A LEGO Ant-Man helmet in early 2023 would be perfect timing, and just think of all the potential for drum-lacquered silver pieces.

3 – The Flash

Beyond Aquaman and the Last Kingdom (and we can’t see the LEGO Group stretching to an Aquaman bust), The Flash is DC’s biggest tentpole movie for 2023. At least one tie-in set is rumoured to be on the cards, but we could definitely see the LEGO Super Heroes team bringing us a Flash cowl set too. Chances are it would follow 76182 Batman Cowl in being an empty shell, but we’d love to see a brick-built bust underneath it…

2 – Spider-Man

While the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection has so far focused on the most iconic characters from a galaxy far, far away, the Marvel and DC equivalents have been partially guided by, erm, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. That means that while we have LEGO sets for both of those symbiotes, we’re yet to see a bust for the web-slinger himself. It’s not like the LEGO Group needs an excuse – Spidey is perpetually relevant – but Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is landing in cinemas next year. Just saying…

1 – Captain America

If the LEGO Group decides to follow in the footsteps of the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection by focusing on its most iconic characters, rather than what’s in cinemas now, we’d be very keen to see a Captain America cowl. It would sit very nicely alongside 76165 Iron Man Helmet, for one, and the colour scheme alone would be a welcome change from the red, black and gold hues of Iron Man, Venom and Carnage.

Whether we’re getting any more LEGO Marvel or DC helmets, cowls or busts at all is still up in the air for the moment, but if the current rumours pan out as expected, we wouldn’t be surprised to see any of the above characters in stores in 2023. Let us know if we’ve missed any obvious candidates in the comments below.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
