Six minifigures you need from new September 1 LEGO sets
A new month saw the arrival of some big-hitter sets, but looking past the sprawling builds, there are plenty of minifigure details to get excited about as well.
September is looking to be a LEGO Harry Potter fan’s dream, but the release of 71039 Marvel Series 2 has welcomed a flurry of impressive new minifigures in the LEGO Marvel theme too. What’s more, the launch of Ahsoka on Disney+ and the related LEGO Star Wars sets have seen a number of beloved Star Wars: Rebels characters return to minifigure form.
All in all, there are a lot of minifigures to keep your eye on this month. Here are six of our favourites and what sets you’ll need to buy to get your hands on them.
6 – Moon Knight

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention at least one of 71039 Marvel Series 2. All of them are pretty impressive, dipping into X-Men, Werewolf by Night, and recent Disney+ shows. Moon Knight is an outstanding favourite, however, with incredibly detailed printing on the torso, legs, and arms to best represent his unique mummy-style costume. His cap is emblazoned with a printed moon and he holds his signature crescent throwing weapon, as well as the all-important scarab. Of course, you’ll probably want to get Mr Knight as well to capture both sides of the hero, but that will require some hard work to predict what’s in each box…
5 – Bellatrix Lestrange

The big release for September 1 was, of course, 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition and it brought with it a total of 13 minifigures. One of our personal favourites is Bellatrix Lestrange, finally complete with a printed dress to best replicate her on-screen look. Her signature massive hairstyle is still in place and, while she lost her dual-moulded arms seen in 76415 The Battle of Hogwarts, we do get another version of her with Hermione’s face and hair to reflect the effects of the Polyjuice Potion wearing off.
4 – Dragomir Despard

Going hand-in-hand (metaphorically) with Bellatrix is Dragomir Despard, Ron Weasley’s disguise to break into Gringotts. Once again, there are two possible variations of the minifigure in 76417 Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors’ Edition, highlighting when Hermione’s transfiguration charms wore off. The smooth printing on both the legs and torso accurately reflects the sweeping ropes he wears in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
3 – Ahsoka Tano

Admittedly, pretty much every minifigure in 75362 Ahsoka Tano’s T-6 Jedi Shuttle is worth getting, from the detailed printing on Huyang’s head to the unique armor sported by Marrok. However, the star of the show has to be Ahsoka herself, with printed arms that are impressively accurate to her on-screen outfit, as well as printed lekku and, of course, her signature dual white lightsabers. No detail of Ahsoka’s on-screen look has been missed and, at the moment, 75362 Ahsoka Tano’s T-6 Jedi Shuttle is the only way to get your hands on the updated minifigure version of the former Jedi.
2 – Hera Syndulla

Similarly, 75357 Ghost & Phantom II is packed full of impressive minifigures. Special mention goes to Chopper for some dedicated printing detail but once again we have to give the top recommendation to a leading lady: Hera Syndulla. From the printed goggles on her head to the various weapons and New Republic insignia details across her torso and body, Hera’s minifigure counterpart packs quite the punch. Not to mention her unique eye colour has been well represented, along with printed lines to best replicate her face shape.
1 – Echo

Okay, we lied, we’re mentioning one more from 71039 Marvel Series 2. Echo provided the first look at the new costume she will sport in her dedicated Disney+ show, as well as a brand new prosthetic leg element. The vibrant colours and detailed printing on both the legs and arms means she couldn’t be left off the list. While we can’t compare it to the on-screen counterpart just yet, it has left us in great anticipation for how Echo will appear in her TV show, airing on November 29.
