Six things we learnt about Marvel Studios projects at the D23 Expo 2022

For those who need a refresher on the news from the D23 Expo Marvel panel, here are six new things we learn about future Marvel Studios projects. 

The D23 Expo 2022’s Marvel, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Studios panel held on September 9, 2022, wasn’t short on announcements, speeding through reveals at a quick pace. Marvel Studios had more to showcase than any other studio at the panel too, so you’d be forgiven for missing a few of the key facts. 

Bearing in mind the LEGO Group’s continued partnership with the, here are six things we learn about future Marvel Studios projects at the D23 Expo 2022. 

6 – Ironheart is about magic versus technology

Ironheart’s Riri Williams will first feature, as a character and minifigure, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and 76211 Shuri’s Sunbird respectively. More details of the upcoming Disney+ series have been confirmed as the show will focus on magic versus technology.

Dominique Thorne returns as Riri Williams and will face off against Anthony Ramos as Parker Robbins, also known as The Hood. Ironheart is coming to Disney+ in 2023. 

5 – Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania connects to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty 

Both likely featuring Kang, it has been confirmed that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will connect to the next Avengers movie, The Kang Dynasty. 

The film will release on February 17, 2023, with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty currently scheduled for May 2, 2025. 

4 – Werewolf by Night is coming in October 2022 

Launching on October 7 on Disney+ Marvel Studios’ first-ever special presentation was created for this Halloween and is titled Werewolf by Night. 

A trailer for the special has been released, referencing several characters from the comics and seemingly debuting them in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Man-Thing. 

3 – Fantastic Four will be directed by Matt Shakman 

One of the first films in the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the director of Fantastic Four has been confirmed as Matt Shakman, who previously directed every episode of WandaVision. 

Fantastic Four releases on November 8, 2024. 

2 – Captain America: New World Order is bringing back The Leader

Captain America: New World Order received a new logo at the panel with the film due in 2024. However, that wasn’t it for the movie. 

The cast of Captain America: New World Order will include Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson or Captain America, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres or Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley returning from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier along with Joaquin and Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader following his last appearance in The Incredible Hulk. 

1 – The Thunderbolts team

One of the biggest reveals out of the panel was the collection of characters that will feature in the Thunderbolts movie, scheduled for July 26, 2024. 

The team includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as John Walker or U.S. Agent, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes or The Winter Soldier,  Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. Concept art was also revealed featuring designs that mostly match up with existing minifigures
