Sonic the Hedgehog x Angry Birds crossover event now live
Two of the biggest video game IPs of all time are crossing over, with a Sonic the Hedgehog x Angry Birds event now live on mobile devices.
It’s the surprise video game crossover that almost everybody saw coming. It’s been announced that Sonic the Hedgehog and Angry Birds will be combining their forces, with five mobile game titles featuring events based on and featuring the fan-favourite characters.
Players who have already checked out the likes of Sonic Forces, Angry Birds 2, Sonic Dash, Angry Birds Dream Blast and Angry Birds Friends now have all-new content to get to grips with. The limited time event runs from March 14 to March 21 and is free to play on iOS and Android devices.
Bizarre sights to behold include Angry Birds characters racing around at high speed in Sonic Forces and Sonic Dash, while Dr. Eggman has teamed up with the Pigs to cause plenty of mayhem on South Island in Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Dream Blast and Angry Birds Friends.
The crossover event was perhaps inevitable, following in the wake of SEGA having successfully purchased Angry Birds developer Rovio, a move that some Sonic the Hedgehog fans have complained could mean the blue blur might be deprioritised or even relegated to just mobile games.
With rumours of more potential LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog models said to be on the way in 2024, the other (remote) possibility is that Angry Birds characters could always end up in future sets. TLG released six LEGO Angry Birds builds back in 2016, but the theme only lasted just over a year.
There’s been no official word from TLG regarding any rumoured LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets for 2024, so do take any rumours and speculation of possible Angry Birds models with a pinch of salt.
