New Star Wars: Ahsoka trailer fuels fan theories around mystery rumoured LEGO set

The latest trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka is fuelling fan theories around the show’s mystery rumoured LEGO set, which some corners of the community now suspect could include two ships.

A total of three LEGO Star Wars sets based on the upcoming Ahsoka TV series are said to be coming in September, including the already-revealed 75357 Ghost & Phantom II, a new T-6 Shuttle and a third mystery set. Little has been shared about 75364 beyond a price tag of $99.99, a minifigure line-up that includes new dark-siders Baylon and Shin, a pilot, a dark blue astromech droid and Morgan Elsbeth, and that it’s supposedly ‘a spaceship’.

But that might not be all that’s in store for the model (if it exists at all). The box art for 75357 Ghost & Phantom II teases another vehicle in the background – one that’s built from bricks, seemingly ready to be released in a set. Instagram user 1414falconfan suspects the ship, which resembles the craft Shin can be seen piloting in the show’s first trailer, will form part of 75364. But given that set’s $100 price tag, it surely wouldn’t be the only thing included.

In comes the latest trailer, which gives us a clear look at what appears to be the very first on-screen E-wing starfighter. A ship originally introduced in the Dark Empire comics of the early ‘90s, the E-wing was decanonised when Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, since reappearing very briefly in a single panel of a Poe Dameron comic – but this is the first time it’s popped up proper in a galaxy far, far away.

Certain members of the LEGO Star Wars community (that is, those on reddit) are now convinced that the E-wing will be paired with the ship glimpsed on the Ghost’s box art in 75364, taking a similar approach to 75348 Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs. TIE Interceptor. And that would tally with the suspected minifigure line-up, which is said to include a pilot and a blue astromech droid. (The E-wing’s astromech, which looks somewhere between R2 and BB-8, has blue highlights.)

This wouldn’t actually be our first LEGO E-wing, though: at least from a certain point of view. 2013’s 75018 JEK-14’s Stealth Starfighter is an original LEGO Star Wars set with no sources in canon, but clearly takes heavy inspiration from Legends’ E-wing concept. The version in the Ahsoka trailer is obviously a different colour, a little more streamlined and absent the top cannon, but the general wing formation looks to match.

If an E-wing really is part of 75364, you can expect it to look plenty different to JEK-14’s ship regardless – 10 years of design improvements will make sure of that. But it’s a curious line to draw, given Shin’s fighter also looks mysteriously like 75145 Eclipse Fighter, a set designed for LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures in 2016.

75364 could therefore bring two brand new ships to the table – while still feeling oddly familiar. We’ll presumably find out soon enough if it really is due to land on shelves in September. It’s still only rumoured at this point, though, so take all speculation with a pinch of salt.

Star Wars: Ahsoka premieres on Disney+ on August 23, while 75357 Ghost & Phantom II is available to pre-order now for £149.99 / $159.99 / €169.99.
