Star Wars Celebration teases connection between The Mandalorian and Skeleton Crew

While debuting the trailer of Skeleton Crew at Star Wars Celebration, a connection between the upcoming show and The Mandalorian is hinted at.

Taking place at roughly the same time as The Mandalorian, Skeleton Crew follows a group of children faced with a big adventure – that ultimately proves too much for them to handle, says showrunner Jon Watts while speaking at Star Wars Celebration 2023, according to Bespin Bulletin.

Watts continued to say he was keen to create a Star Wars show that centred children's experiences in a galaxy far, far away. Paired with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy's experience with Amblin Entertainment, which had a clear focus on content for younger audiences, Skeleton Crew is designed to both star and appeal to young audiences, as well as old.

As previously confirmed, Jude Law will star in the show and he took to the stage to discuss the project in more detail, before a trailer was shown for the live-action show. According to Bespin Bulletin, the show will crossover with The Mandalorian in a small way, featuring the pirate, Vane, who faced down Greef Karga and Din Djarin on Nevarro.

Elsewhere in the trailer, the plot of the show seems to follow a group of children who get lost in the galaxy and meet Jude Law's Jedi character, while their parents try to seek them out and bring them home safely.

No release date was confirmed for the show, but it's believed to be airing sometime this year. News from the stage also confirms there will be several directors, presumably each helming their own episodes. These include the Daniels (the minds behind Everything, Everywhere, All At Once), David Lowrey, Jon Watts, Lee Isaac Chung, Bryce Dallas-Howard, and Jake Schrier.
