Star Wars: The Acolyte cast includes The Matrix, Squid Game and The Good Place alumni

Disney has revealed the full cast for its upcoming series Star Wars: The Acolyte, which includes stars from Squid Game, The Good Place and The Matrix.

Bodies Bodies Bodies lead Amandla Stenberg is heading up a cast that boasts both new and veteran household names in the prequel series, which is set at the tail end of the High Republic era – or approximately a century before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Little else is known about the show at this stage, but production is now underway.

Starring alongside Stenberg are Squid Game’s Lee Jung-Jae, The Good Place’s Manny Jacinto, The Matrix’s Carrie-Anne Moss, and Dafne Keen, who’s probably best known for playing Laura in 2017’s X-Men spin-off movie Logan. Also announced for Star Wars: The Acolyte today are Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett and Dean-Charles Chapman.

The first still from the set of the show features Jung-Jae and Stenberg, presumably not yet in costume, with series writer and producer Leslye Headland, who also penned Netflix series Russian Doll. The image suggests that The Acolyte will take its cues from Star Wars: Andor by using physical sets, rather than relying on Lucasfilm’s advanced green-screen tech like The Mandalorian.

No release date has been given for Star Wars: The Acolyte yet, but with filming only just getting underway, we’re probably looking at no sooner than late 2023 or early 2024.

By then, we could be seeing the LEGO Star Wars theme’s first sets based on High Republic material: the LEGO Group has mostly shied away from books and comics, which have been the exclusive realm of High Republic-era stories so far, but has wholeheartedly embraced Star WarsDisney+ shows.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
