Star Wars The Mandalorian & Grogu’s name is confusing some
While most are excited by the news of the Star Wars The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, the name is perplexing some enthusiasts online.
A new Star Wars movie has just been announced, leading the upcoming slate of movies from across the Star Wars timeline. This new movie is named The Mandalorian & Grogu, featuring the duo from the streaming series in some kind of spacefaring adventure.
Overall, reactions to The Mandalorian & Grogu’s announcement are positive – as they are for the second season of Ahsoka – with some exclaiming their enthusiasm on social media.
Some are hopeful for the movie but have concerns regarding the quality of the previous seasons. NitroSpidey specifically notes their desire for a more familiar adventure similar to that of the first couple of seasons.
One of the most notable concerns in the initial reactions to this announcement comes from the name though. Continuing the story of The Mandalorian, adding ‘Grogu’ to the title makes sense for a movie as the character has become as recognisable as Din Djarin and possibly more. While the title may be marketable, some still aren’t overly impressed.
“Makes total sense promotionally speaking if you want to ensure a big box office reception for the Mandoverse crossover film, by introducing filmgoers to The Mandalorian rather than just solely the TV watchers,” NocturnalStalinist on the Star Wars subreddit notes. “A rational strategy to fill more seats.”
Agreeing with their point, ContinuumGuy adds: “Also, I feel like even among TV watchers, Mando and Grogu are BY FAR the most beloved, so having a movie that literally has their names and images smack dab in the centre is a good play.”
“I hate the trend of naming these kinds of things just whatever the main character’s name is. The Mandalorian & Grogu is such a boring title; it sounds like the name of an action figure 2-in-1 set,” writes DionStabber, taking issue with the title too.
For now, the title of the new Star Wars movie remains The Mandalorian & Grogu and it’s scheduled to start production later this year. A second season of Ahsoka has also been confirmed.
