The 10 best one-off movie LEGO sets – including two that are about to retire

11389 Project Hail Mary is only the latest in a long line of one-off movie LEGO sets, so here are 10 of the best released to date – including two that are retiring in just a few months.

Some movie franchises get 27 years (and counting) of sets devoted to them, but others are immortalised in bricks in a single catch-all model. That’s the premise behind these 10 sets, which are – to date – the only fully-fledged LEGO models based on their respective movies.

Some of these have long since retired, others are new members of this fairly exclusive club, and others still are on the brink of retirement, so make sure you don’t miss them before they’re gone…

10 – 10375 How to Train Your Dragon: Toothless

Theme: Icons Price: £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99 Pieces: 784 Release date: Jul 1, 2025 Retiring: Dec 31, 2028

How to Train Your Dragon feels so ripe for the LEGO treatment that it’s almost hard to believe the only set we’ve gotten so far is a buildable Toothless under the Icons banner. If you ask us, we reckon there’ll be more to come eventually (just speculating blindly there) – but for now, 10375 Toothless is the only option for HTTYD fans. Fortunately it’s really quite good, and relatively affordable compared to some other sets on this list too…

9 – 21317 Steamboat Willie

Theme: Ideas Price: £79.99 / $89.99 / €89.99 Pieces: 751 Release date: Apr 1, 2019 Status: Retired

How many LEGO sets can you name that are fully black and white? 21317 Steamboat Willie leans into its vintage aesthetic with real success, and while you’ll need to turn to the aftermarket to get your hands on it now (it retired over half a decade ago), it’s well worth hunting down if you’ve got any interest in classic animation, Disney or just cool LEGO sets.

8 – 21354 Twilight: The Cullen House

Theme: Ideas Price: £189.99 / $219.99 / €219.99 Pieces: 2,001 Release date: Feb 1, 2025 Retiring: Jul 31, 2027

It might have come nearly 20 years too late, but the first and only LEGO Twilight set – courtesy of the Ideas platform – knocked it out of the park at the first time of asking. The smart play here was broadening the scope of the set to entice architecture fans into the fold too, because the Cullen house is an attractive model regardless of its franchise status. 21354 Twilight: The Cullen House has another year or so left on shelves at the time of writing.

7 – 21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage

Theme: Ideas Price: £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99 Pieces: 2,316 Release date: Jul 1, 2023 Status: Retired

21341 Disney Hocus Pocus: The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage left shelves at the end of 2025, and bowed out as one of the most underrated LEGO Ideas sets… well, ever. That’s probably by dint of the movie it’s attached to, which is a cult classic but maybe not what you’d call a cinematic masterpiece – yet like Twilight, its LEGO set transcends the trappings of its source material to appeal to more than just its core fanbase. In this case, it’s Castle fans yearning for another building to scale with 21325 Medieval Blacksmith.

6 – 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas

Theme: Ideas Price: £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 Pieces: 2,193 Release date: Sep 3, 2024 Retiring: Dec 31, 2026

The LEGO Ideas team successfully skewered this Tim Burton-produced classic in 2024, serving up a three-part build that drills down into the kooky aesthetic of the animated movie. 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas may not have the same universal appeal as some other sets on this list, but for fans of the movie it’s difficult to think what more you could ask for. Watch out for this one retiring at the end of this year.

5 – 11389 Project Hail Mary

Theme: Icons Price: £99.99 / $99.99 / €109.99 Pieces: 830 Release date: Mar 1, 2026 Retiring: Dec 31, 2028

While most of the sets on this list have come about thanks to support from the fan community via LEGO Ideas, 11389 Project Hail Mary was a left-field addition to the portfolio courtesy of movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who flexed their existing relationship with the LEGO Group via The LEGO Movie to make it happen. Good thing, too: it’s one of the most interesting Icons releases in a little while and the sort of build that stands apart in the pantheon of one-off movie sets.

4 – 21363 The Goonies

Theme: Ideas Price: £269.99 / $329.99 / €299.99 Pieces: 2,912 Release date: Nov 1, 2025 Retiring: Dec 31, 2027

LEGO Ideas 21363 The Goonies review title

One of the common threads between most of the sets on this list is how deftly they cover pretty much every major beat or character from a movie. We might not have a full theme of Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas or Home Alone sets, but these models are so comprehensive that we don’t really need them either. So it is with 21363 The Goonies, which packs the entire story into the back of its pirate ship and populates them with every character you could need. The result is the best kind of hybrid play-and-display set.

3 – 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter

Theme: Icons Price: £149.99 / $164.99 / €164.99 Pieces: 1,369 Release date: Feb 1, 2024 Retiring: Jul 31, 2026

LEGO Icons 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter review title

One of two LEGO sets featured here that’s retiring imminently, 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter feels like it might always be one of a kind simply for how many minifigures are included in the box. If more LEGO Dune sets were in the works, some of them might have been saved for later… although never say never, because there are new characters in the second and upcoming third movies that could be included in a future set. Regardless, the mechanisms in the Ornithopter are a thing to behold, so don’t miss this one while it’s still available.

2 – 21330 Home Alone

Theme: Ideas Price: £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99 Pieces: 3,955 Release date: Nov 1, 2021 Retiring: Dec 31, 2028

The oldest LEGO Ideas set currently on shelves isn’t due to retire until the end of 2028 at the earliest, which speaks to the staying power of 21330 Home Alone above all else (and indeed above all others). That’s pretty good for what was once the theme’s biggest set too, but the enduring popularity of the original movie, its seasonal relevance and the scale, ambition and detail of the LEGO set are all the ingredients needed for one of the best one-off LEGO movie sets of all time.

1 – 21350 Jaws

Theme: Ideas Price: £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 Pieces: 1,497 Release date: Aug 3, 2024 Retiring: Jul 31, 2026

Plenty of LEGO sets on this list take unique approaches to their subject matter, while 21350 Jaws instead adopts the approach of models like 76956 T. rex Breakout, displaying its shark and boat on a diorama-style base framed with a black border. It doesn’t feel played out, though: instead, it creates the perfect foundation for a dynamic display, which is matched by one of the best building experiences you’ll find on shelves right now.

The way the Orca comes together is sheer genius, the shark’s distinctive mouth and eyes are pitch-perfect, and the way the entire scene spills out over the base makes it feel expansive rather than cramped or confined. For our money this is one of the best LEGO sets available at the moment, let alone the best one-off movie model, but act fast: it’s on the way out very soon, retiring for good in July as things stand right now.

The copy of 21350 Jaws pictured here was provided for review by the LEGO Group, but opinions are entirely our own. It’s just that good.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
