The weirdest LEGO Star Wars minifigures of all time

With more than 1,400 minifigures created during 25 years of LEGO Star Wars, here’s our list of the 10 wackiest and weirdest released to date.

LEGO Star Wars is currently deep into its 25th anniversary, with multiple set releases, events and GWPs having popped up so far in 2024. With a steady stream of models being released over more than two decades, so too has the theme’s minifigure selection continued to grow.

Over the years fans have received multiple iterations of many familiar characters, alongside some serious deep cuts. That’s certainly true when it comes to our round-up of the 10 weirdest LEGO Star Wars minifigures off all time, with a rogue’s gallery of strange faces that only a Mon Calamarian mother could love.

1 – Aldar Beedo

The prequel trilogy was an odd time for sure, with the LEGO Star Wars team time trying out all kinds of new model and character designs. One of the latter was Aldar Beedo, a Glymphid podracer who has received not one but two minifigures to date.

The first appeared in 2000’s 7159 Star Wars Podracing Bucket and was assembled from a selection of random droid parts. The second version of the character was a single moulded LEGO piece that was included in 7186 Watto’s Junkyard Podracers in 2001.

2 – Sebulba

Two versions of fellow podracer Sebulba were also produced, with the first arriving in 1999 in 7171 Mos Espa Pod Race. The grey variant was made from a single LEGO piece and had no movement capabilities or printing whatsoever.

Fortunately, a much more accurate iteration of the mean-spirited Dug landed in 2011 as part of 7962 Anakin’s and Sebulba’s Podracers. This time around the character’s colour scheme matched his onscreen appearance and his two arms could be repositioned.

3 – Gasgano

Speaking of 7171 Mos Espa Pod Race, the prequel set brought with it yet another bizarre minifigure. Although portrayed as a six-armed character in The Phantom Menace, the LEGO version of Gasgano only had four limbs.

What’s more, the Xexto pilot was assembled from various droid elements, a white printed minifigure head with helmet and goggles, plus a chainsaw piece that has only ever been used to construct this one freakish minifigure.

4 – Watto

Episode I’s tricky Toydarian junk dealer was released in 2001’s 7186 Watto’s Junkyard. As with many other LEGO minifigures from Episode I, the first pass at the character was essentially a simpler version, with a blue minifigure that had no printing on it.

That was rectified in 2011 thanks to 7962 Anakin’s and Sebulba’s Podracers, which featured a much more colourful version of Watto that had short legs and a single head, wings and torso piece known as a sandwich board.

5 – Rotta the Hutt

Speaking of the weird and wacky, The Clone Wars animated series also had its own fair share of oddball minifigures. For instance, take Rotta the Hutt, the slimy, green son of Jabba who was kidnapped in the show by Separatists.

The Rotta minifigure was made from three unique sand-green LEGO pieces and printed yellow and black eyes. The character popped up in 7675 AT-TE Walker and 7680 The Twilight – Limited Edition, both of which launched in 2008.

6 – Chancellor Palpatine

Surely there’s nothing scarier than knowing that humble Chancellor Palpatine was in fact the scheming Sith lord known as Darth Sidious? Wrong. Take a look at The Clone Wars variant of the character and prepare for the nightmares to begin.

One of five minifigures included with 8038 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser in 2009, this version of Chancellor Palpatine boasted large eyes that seemed to sit too far down on his face to be natural. Very strange indeed…

7 – Thi-Sen

Also appearing in The Clone Wars era was Thi-Sen, a Talz Chieftain who made his debut in an episode of the animated series. A member of a nomadic tribe on the ice planet Orto Plutonia, this wacky minifigure came with 8085 Freeco Speeder in 2010.

A single LEGO piece was used for Thi-Sen’s head, narglatch tailbone headdress, cape and fur body. This character is from the same race as Muftak, an alien that appeared in the Mos Eisley Cantina but has yet to receive his own minifigure.

8 – Pong Krell

A powerful Jedi, General Pong Krull eventually fell to the dark side in The Clone Wars when he turned on his own troops. The four-armed Besalisk minifigure was only ever included with 75004 Z-95 Headhunter, which launched in 2013.

The character had a then-new head and torso moulded sandwich board piece, complete with facial printing, plus two stacked torsos to give him extra height and two pairs of arms with which to hold his green and blue double-bladed lightsabers.

9 – Ree-Yees

Many LEGO Star Wars fans may have been disappointed to discover that Ree-Yees wasn’t one of the minifigure menagerie to be included with the recently-released 75397 Jabba’s Sail Barge.

That’s made all the stranger by the fact that the Gran character has appeared in just one set to date – 75020 Jabba’s Sail Barge. With a unique tan head mould that featured three printed eyes, Ree-Yees remains exclusive to the 2013 model to this day.

10 – Unkar’s Brute

The sequel trilogy doesn’t manage to dodge this minifigure weird list either, thanks to Unkar’s Brute. Popping up in 2017’s 75178 Jakku Quadjumper and four LEGO Star Wars books, the fearsome enforcer carried out the orders of his Crolute boss in The Force Awakens when asked to capture Rey and BB-8.

The minifigure version of Unkar’s Brute features a nightmare-inducing face print that captures the look of the thug’s one-eyed face poking out from behind a mess of scarred flesh. Brrr….
