The LEGO Shrek sets we need next

LEGO Shrek is finally official, and it has been teased that more is to come, hopefully including these suggested models.

It’s taken a while, but LEGO Shrek is real and coming this summer. It all starts with two sets, 40923 Shrek, Donkey & Gingy Figures and 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots. Buildable characters are the name of the game so far, with the one Puss in Boots minifigure, but there are several directions in which LEGO Shrek could go next.

That’s why it’s great to hear that these two models are just the beginning for LEGO Shrek, leaving us to wonder where this partnership could go next, and whether this is the start of a new theme. Shrek is not yet listed under the themes page on LEGO.com, but the fact that 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots is without the Icons branding and that the partnership will continue gives us hope.

“Shrek has always celebrated imagination, friendship, and a little bit of mischief, which are values that translate perfectly into LEGO play,” said Raquel Ojeda. “We’re ogre the moon to partner with this beloved universe and see how fans build their own fairy-tale adventures. This is just the beginning, so keep your eyes peeled for lots more LEGO Shrek magic!”

With this in mind, we’re putting our speculative skills to use to envision what the future of LEGO Shrek could hold. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the community has shown that at least one of these ideas is in demand.

Shrek’s swamp

That in-demand LEGO Shrek set has to be a recreation of his swamp home. The LEGO Ideas community has consistently asked for exactly that, and several of these projects have been rejected over and over again. Now that LEGO Shrek is real, surely the LEGO Group will have their eyes on such a set after it has been consistently part of the various review rounds.

The many LEGO Shrek swamp models all featured minifigures of the film’s key characters, and a detail-filled tree home model with some light landscaping. Its appearance would likely be similar to 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1, but that model is retiring later this year.

Dronkey buildable figure

It’s been made clear that the LEGO Group loves its buildable character models and has a soft spot for all things cute and marketable, such as Grogu. With this in mind, another LEGO Shrek set to make the best of this opportunity would be a buildable Dronkey, ideally not in an 18+ package.

We’re picturing the Shrek equivalent of 43243 Simba the Lion King Cub, but featuring a Dronkey with one of the many wing elements and some fire accessories on the side. It wouldn’t necessarily need a standalone theme either, as 10375 Toothless is part of LEGO Icons.

Warning sign wall art

The iconic ogre warning sign is featured in both of the LEGO Shrek sets at varying sizes, but we’d like the LEGO Group to go even bigger with such iconic movie artwork. A piece of LEGO wall art in the same vein as 31220 Claude Monet – Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies, or even 43018 Lionel Messi – Celebration, would allow the LEGO designers to stretch their creative muscles. The painted design of the sign also lends itself well to the nature of LEGO pieces.

Another trio of characters

Another clear path for LEGO Shrek’s future is just retreading one of its first. A sequel to 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots, with a different trio of characters from the film, is an obvious next step for the partnership. Three particular characters may be able to hold their own in such a model, too, but with a more affordable price tag.

We’ll hopefully get a LEGO Fiona at some point as part of this partnership, and a buildable figure to go alongside the massive LEGO Shrek is hopefully on the table. The character won’t be much harder to depict than Shrek, borrowing many of the techniques from 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots.

Otherwise, a LEGO Pinocchio figure and Gingy minifigure similar to Puss in Boots would round out a second trio of Shrek buildable figures. We know that the former is back in the fifth film, and Gingy was briefly featured in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Gingy is the perfect size to be depicted as a minifigure relative to buildable figures, and Pinocchio’s wooden appearance lends itself to the nature of LEGO elements nicely.

With the fifth Shrek movie coming soon and a future for LEGO Shrek confirmed, here’s hoping more sets are on the horizon. In the meantime, both 40923 Shrek, Donkey & Gingy Figures and 72423 Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots will be released on June 1, 2026.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
