LEGO Icons 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr has some important minifigures

LEGO Icons 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr has been revealed including 10 important new minifigures from Sauron to a new Gollum.

From the first-ever and long-awaited Sauron minifigure to several updated takes on classic LEGO The Lord of the Rings minifigures, 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr‘s minifigures are almost as impressive as the monolithic model.

We’ve got a guide to all 10 minifigures in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr ready for you to recap your knowledge of the characters as well as find out why most of these minifigures are incredibly important for LEGO The Lord of the Rings.

Sauron

The star of the show in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr is undoubtedly the first-ever physical Sauron minifigure. The big bad of The Lord of the Rings has needed a minifigure since the start of the theme in 2012 but before now, had yet to receive one. The character has previously appeared digitally in LEGO Dimensions and there have been several changes to the design in the transition from digital to physical minifigure.

The armour and helmet are now less angular, likely accommodating for the limits of the LEGO Group’s moulding process. On the upside, the printing is much more detailed across the torso and legs. The mace has not received a new element, instead opting for a brick-built weapon instead. Still, there’s no doubt that this is the most crucial LEGO The Lord of the Rings minifigure yet, over one decade after the theme started.

Mouth of Sauron

The mouth of Sauron previously appeared in 2013’s 79007 Battle at the Black Gate and the new minifigure strongly resembles it, though not without some minor changes. The arm colour of the servant of Sauron has been changed to black and the helmet now appears to be a singular colour with less angular shaping too.

Otherwise, the tooth-filled grin of the character persists and overall it’s not quite the most notable design makeover for a minifigure in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr.

Orcs

Four orc warriors are featured in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr to help populate the structure and these minifigures all feature torso and leg printing as well as some detailing on a shield.

They use Griphook’s hair from LEGO Harry Potter and as much as they’re not the most exciting minifigures in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr, none of them even the most exciting orc minifigure in the set.

Gothmog

Gothmog is the second brand-new character to receive a minifigure in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr aside from Sauron. The lieutenant of Morgul appeared as a major antagonist in the LEGO The Lord of the Rings video game but finally has a physical minifigure that borrows much from the digital design.

As well as the overall colour scheme, Gothmog in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr has a unique face compared to the other orcs in the set and is the second brand-new minifigure in the new model.

Frodo

Frodo recently appeared in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell and the protagonist’s latest minifigure appears to be almost exactly the same.

Everything from the torso to the face seems to be the same and the dual-moulded short legs return too. Given the recent release of 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, this makes sense and Frodo arguably didn’t need any major update.

Sam

Similar to Frodo, Sam’s minifigure in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr matches up with that of 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell too.

The collar of the shirt may be somewhat different, though it’s hard to tell if this is just to do with printing alignment. Otherwise, Sam didn’t need a new minifigure following 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell.

Gollum

Gollum has undergone a significant makeover in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr. The unique character’s original minifigure used two exclusive elements, both of which have been replaced in 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr. Now, the body has been updated, as identified clearly by the shaping on the face and the ears.

The arms appear to use existing elements to capture the thin limbs of the character and his eyes have been amended to resemble the iconic eyes of minifigures more closely too. Considering that a new Gollum-centric movie is on the way in 2026, a new piece for the character makes a lot of sense though nothing has been confirmed for the future of LEGO The Lord of the Rings.

10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr is available for LEGO Insiders from June 1 for £399.99 / $469.99 / €469.99. You’ll also score a free gift-with-purchase while stocks last or for the first week of release.
