40529 Children’s Amusement Park is the next promotional item to debut at LEGO retail outlets. Depicting a hook-a-duck attraction, a test-your-strength machine and a banana boat swing, the set will be a perfect companion to any LEGO fairground scene. Indeed, we’ve heard rumours that a new LEGO rollercoaster could be making an appearance later this year.
It’s a great promotional item on its own merits, but LEGO fans that are longer in the tooth may be underwhelmed. That’s because components of the set are remarkably similar to 60234: People Pack – Fun Fair, which released back in 2019.
While they appear to have fallen out of favour, people packs allowed LEGO CITY fans to easily expand their minifigure collection. Five were released between 2016 and 2019, depicting scenes such as parkland, the seaside and even a space agency. This people pack clearly depicts a fairground, and comes with many attractive play features.
The eagle-eyed amongst you will spot both a hook-a-duck attraction and a test-your-strength machine, although the design of the latter is admittedly different. However, the former is practically identical; the girl playing with it is even wearing the same jumper as the girl in the new version.
It’s certainly not a dealbreaker; presumably, there’s little overlap between buyers of this set and buyers of the new one. But given how impressive the banana boat is, it’s a shame a more diverse set of attractions wasn’t explored in this new model.
40529 Children’s Amusement Park will reportedly be available from April 15 to April 30, or while stocks last. The spend threshold isn’t known at this time, but if the date is accurate we’ll hopefully find out soon. Remember that you can only get it with purchases from LEGO.com or official LEGO stores during this period.
