Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller becomes official LEGO ambassador

German football superstar Thomas Müller can add another achievement to his list of career highs – becoming an official LEGO ambassador.

The LEGO Group has just made a new star signing to help promote the company and its products, with a German football sensation stepping into the spotlight. Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller is the latest celebrity to become a LEGO brand ambassador, with the timing of the announcement coming ahead of Euro 2024 kicking off on June 14.

A new landing page on the German version of LEGO.com has confirmed the news, with a quick translation of the page revealing that, ‘This is the transfer of the year!’ A press release posted by Promobricks has more details on the reveal, including a quote from the player himself.

“Of course, at the age of 34, you already wonder: Where can I still play? Where can I also implement my creative ideas?,” said Müller. “That’s why I decided to change. I am now playing in Team LEGO. I am very happy to be the new LEGO ambassador. My eight-year-old self would jump in the air with joy, I loved to build LEGO fantasy worlds for hours as a child.”

“And that has remained with me to this day,” he went on to say, “because my superpower on the pitch and in every game is creativity. Every game situation, no matter how surprising it is, I meet with heart and imagination. Coupled with courage and perseverance, this results in my personal plan for every situation. I am very happy to play exactly this spirit for and with #TeamLEGO.”

There’s no word at this stage exactly what Müller will be doing in his new role, although it’s revealed that he’ll be LEGO brand ambassador in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. According to Theresa Silbereisen, Senior Marketing Director Central Europe of the LEGO Group, we’ll find out what Thomas Müller will be up to as LEGO brand ambassador when all is revealed sometime this summer.

This won’t be the first time that Müller has been associated with the LEGO Group though. Back in 2016, the player was one of 16 collectible minifigures that made up in 71014 DFB – The Mannschaft. As well as the full German national team, the CMF included then coach Joachim Löw, with the players wearing the official Adidas Germany kit of Euro 2016.
