21343 Viking Village looks to stay faithful to original LEGO Ideas design

The ultimate fate of LEGO Ideas sets is left up to professional designers – but an upcoming LEGO Ideas build looks like it could stay true to the original design.

We don’t know a lot about one of the next LEGO Ideas sets that will soon be making its way to shelves, but recent rumours via brick_clicker and falconbrickstudios suggested that the piece count will stay remarkably close to the original fan design, therefore inspiring hope that the official set could remain close to the submission all-round. With the rumour suggesting it contains 2,103 pieces, this is perfectly in line with fan designer BrickHammer‘s original estimate of around 2,100 pieces.

If the official piece count is accurate, that suggests that, at the very least, the scale and detail of the original design will remain. Indeed, while the LEGO Group does sometimes make changes to make a set more commercially viable (such as reducing the number and density of leaves on the trees in 21338 A-Frame Cabin to reduce the overall cost), remaining faithful to the original design is often a popular choice among fans, who often grow attached to winning designs over the time it takes for them to develop.

The LEGO Group’s changes aren’t always about limiting sets, however, In the case of 21335 Motorised Lighthouse, the build was scaled up in the final design to suit minifigures, rather than microfigures, adding a full seven centimetres to its already towering height. In fact, some of the most faithful LEGO Ideas sets have been detailed buildings much like 21343 Viking Village. We’re looking at you, 21330 Home Alone and 21325 Medieval Blacksmith. While both made aesthetic changes, such as the moss colour in 21325 and how to access the interior in 21330, the overall structure and design of the builds remained similar.

The original design for Viking Village packs quite the punch, from its brick-built roper bridge over a rocky drop to the detailed forge and weapons area, so we can only hope that the rumoured upcoming release captures as much of the original flair that caught the eye of 10,000 LEGO Ideas voters in the first place. For now, we’ll have to wait until the LEGO Group officially confirms the set and its details to be sure, so take our speculation with a pinch of salt for now.
