WATCH: How LEGO Rivendell solves an age-old minifigure problem

Check out our latest video to find out how the newly-revealed LEGO Icons 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell solves an issue that’s plagued minifigures for decades.

Back in 2012, when LEGO The Lord of the Rings first hit shelves, life wasn’t exactly rosy in brick-built Middle-earth. Beyond there being no Minas Tirith (and therefore nowhere for our heroes to flee to in Return of the King), or Mount Doom (guess that ring’s never getting destroyed), the theme’s vertically-challenged characters also faced a very particular problem.

More than a decade on, it’s an issue the LEGO Group has now sought to address in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, which maintains its height differences between Hobbit and human, elf and dwarf characters. You can find out exactly how the designers have managed it in our latest video, either by hitting play below or heading over to our YouTube channel.

While most of TikTok’s users were probably not yet forming complete sentences when Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy arrived in cinemas, we’ve still published the same video to our TikTok channel, so you can check out this positively retro set over there too.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
