When LEGO mini-dolls are better than minifigures…

LEGO Disney 43288 Sally’s Flowerpot includes the first-ever mini-doll of the patchwork character, and it’s one instance where you might just prefer it to the minifigure.

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas gains its second LEGO set next month, with 43288 Sally’s Flowerpot arriving online and in stores on March 1. The 346-piece LEGO Disney model includes a number of new prints and recolours, as well as a very impressive mini-doll debut.

Sally first appeared back in 2019’s 71024 Disney Series 2, with a different take on the ragdoll character included with 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas in 2024. While either of those minifigures could have popped up in 43288 Sally’s Flowerpot, the LEGO Disney team have taken a page out of 76784 Black Dahlia Flower’s playbook instead by offering a unique mini-doll with the brick-built bloom.

What’s interesting about this version of Sally is just how much the slightly taller mini-doll format better suits the character when it comes to her overall proportions, which are exemplified by thin, long limbs, a slim torso and a ragged dress made from various scraps of fabric.

43288 Sally’s Flowerpot’s mini-doll uses a selection of new elements to achieve her distinctive appearance, with a light aqua head, torso, arms and legs, all bolstered by stand-out and detailed printing on each of those pieces, which extends to the back of her torso but not her skirt.

The only slight compromise with the Sally mini-doll is a minor toning down of some of her trademark stitch marks, which appeared on the printed arms of 71024 Disney Series 2’s minifigure and the legs of the character in 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas, possibly reflecting the LEGO Disney set’s 9+ target audience.

One piece that has been cleverly reused with 43288 Sally’s Flowerpot’s mini-doll is the same dark red hair part that accompanied the 2019 collectible minifigure of Sally, instead of the slightly different element that came with the minifigure in the 2024 LEGO Ideas release.

When it comes to the printing on 43288 Sally’s Flowerpot’s mini-doll, the character gains a third revised look when compared to the more muted aesthetics of the past two minifigure versions. This time around, Sally’s dress has a much brighter appearance thanks to vibrant orange, pink and blue colouring, and her outfit is topped off with a pair of black shoes.

Unlike the previous minifigure takes on Sally, 43288 Sally’s Flowerpot’s mini-doll only has a single printed facial expression, but it’s one that’s more stylised and satisfying, mostly down to the shape of the mini-doll’s head piece, which includes a petite nose and chin, plus much larger eyes that more accurately reflect the original source material.

With three versions of Sally to choose from, fans of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas can always opt for whichever LEGO take on the character they feel works best for them. When it comes to 43288 Sally’s Flowerpot though, the LEGO Disney set delivers a much improved revision of the popular patchwork ragdoll, one that really benefits from its mini-doll approach, new elements, bold colours and detailed printing.

43288 Sally’s Flowerpot is priced at £44.99 in the UK, $49.99 in the US and €49.99 in Europe. The set launches on March 1, is available to pre-order now and you can take a look at our full review of the LEGO Disney build right here.
