Where to buy missing LEGO pieces
Finding that there’s one or more pieces missing from a LEGO set mid-build can ruin your day but there’s an easy way to get replacements for free.
As much as the LEGO Group tries during the production process to ensure that every set is packaged to a high quality, they’re not always perfect in this regard. Occasionally, pieces will genuinely be missing from bags but there’s no need to let it spoil the experience for you. First, we recommend double-checking that the piece is actually missing.
With the new paper bags, we’ve found that elements can get stuck in the corners and because they’re not transparent, we simply don’t notice that there’s still a brick in there before it goes into the recycling bin. You might find – even after checking – that the missing piece is still nowhere to be found though.
Should this be the case, simply head to the official online store (LEGO.com) as there’s an easy way to get replacements for sets for free – no cost required.
How to buy missing LEGO pieces

Head on over to LEGO.com and scroll down to the bottom of the page, where the website lists various sections for support and more information. Click the ‘replacement parts’ link and you’ll be taken to the official replacement pieces webpage for missing elements.
Here, you’ll be prompted to determine whether or not the pieces are broken or missing. For this guide, we’ll go with missing. Click the appropriate section with the green image and you’ll be asked to insert the set number. This should be on the front of the box and the instructions and usually consists of five digits. Older or unusual sets may have more or fewer digits, but it’s always on the left-hand side. Alternatively, you can enter the name of the set or a word from it.
Enter that information and proceed by clicking the blue button at the bottom of the page and you’ll be able to see the sets that the LEGO Group currently offers replacement pieces for, even for older models. As long as the element hasn’t retired, you’ll find a replacement.
Pick whichever set you need and choose whether or not you’re missing a piece or the stickers from the set. Again, we’ll assume you’re missing a piece here. Flip to the back of your set’s instructions and you’ll find a long list of parts with images for each element as well as a number. Find which piece you’re missing and enter the corresponding number into the text box on the webpage where prompted.

Alternatively, you can click below that box to find a list of every single piece in the set that the LEGO Group currently provides replacements for. Pick whichever element you are missing and it will be added to your order. Don’t worry though, you won’t be paying for this.
If the element you need has no more replacements for the LEGO Group to provide, the webpage will tell you as such when you add it to the order. In most cases, this will be more specific parts with printed surfaces, including minifigure pieces.
Assuming the LEGO Group has replacements of the parts you need, just enter your address and other relevant details where prompted and complete the order. The LEGO Group will then send you the missing pieces and in our experience, they tend to arrive within or just after a week. This may vary for you though.
Should LEGO.com not have the piece you need replacing, then your best bet is to head to BrickLink and search for the set number or name using the section at the top of the page. From there, you’ll find a listing for every relevant set and will need to find the build you are currently constructing. In these listings, there will be a section for every element in the set (or parts) with the option to buy missing pieces from unofficial sellers. This will require you to pay for the goods and delivery though.
Using either the official online store or BrickLink should help you find whichever element you’re missing so that you can continue building your set.
