Who’s who in the LEGO One Piece minifigure line-up

There are 15 One Piece characters making their minifigure debuts in the LEGO One Piece wave, including several that are unique to just one set.

With seven LEGO One Piece sets on the way, that’s a whole lot of characters now recreated as minifigures for the very first time. The minifigures are based on the live-action depictions of the characters, with various new and unique elements to render them faithfully.

15 characters are represented across the sets, with some making multiple appearances and others only featured in one set. Here’s a breakdown of every One Piece character and where you can find them as a minifigure.

Monkey D. Luffy

Main character Monkey D. Luffy appears in every set but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll see him the same way. In 75636 Windmill Village Hut, you get him as a child, with the set visiting Windmill Village, where the One Piece show begins.

Every other set sees Monkey D. Luffy fully grown and in pretty much the same outfit – with the exception of 75638 Battle at Arlong Park, where he has the same long arms as Ms Marvel and Elastigirl. This represents his stretchy powers.

In the other versions of his minifigure, he has a nifty neck element that means his straw hat can be attached to his back. While admittedly it’s not shown in the pictures for 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship and 75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant, we’d assume it appears in all three other sets that included minifigures.

Shanks

Shanks makes just one minifigure appearance in 75636 Windmill Village Hut, but it’s an accurate one, with some special face printing to recreate his scars. It also means you get a unique straw hat element that features his red hair underneath, keeping it different from Monkey D. Luffy’s hat in other sets. It’s fitting that he only appears in this set based early on in Monkey’s journey, seeing as he is the one who gives him the signature hat.

That’s both a blessing and a curse: if you buy all the sets, you get more variations on the hat. If you are only wanting the minifigures and hat element, it does mean you need to spend more to get your hands on it.

Makino

The green-haired Makino also only appears in 75636 Windmill Village Hut. Being a bartender from Monkey’s home town, this is another fitting minifigure placement and is understandable why she doesn’t appear more often. The green hair could have been improved with a bandana that matches her outfit, but overall it’s a fairly accurate representation.

Nami

Nami appears in four sets, debuting two outfit options. She appears the same in 75637 Clown’s, 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship, and 75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant, with a white and blue torso and dual-moulded arms, complete with orange legs with impressively detailed printing. In 75638 Battle at Arlong Park alone, she has a different look, with all-black legs and a new torso. While this version doesn’t have dual-moulded arms, we do still get some arm printing that works just as well.

Zoro

Similar to Nami, Zoro has two outfit options across the three sets he appears in, with a blue torso in 75637 and 75640, switching it up with a sand colour ones in 75639. Whichever option has dual-moulded arms once again, along with his green hair, of course. It looks like 75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant alone has an alternate head piece for Zoro, with a close-fitting bandana to keep his fair off his face while fighting.

Special mention should also go to his white sword, which has a new element where it can clip onto his face, as if he’s using it between his teeth as he’s known to do on the show. This is as close to the actual look as a minifigure head can get, and it’s a clever use of pushing LEGO elements to perform in new ways.

Buggy the Clown

Buggy the Clown appears in one set and one set only, so if you want to get your hands on the captain of the Buggy Pirates, you’ll need to pick up 75637 Buggy the Clown’s Circus Tent to do so. He comes with a nifty hairpiece that sees his blue hair draped over the ends of his pirate hat. It’s pretty close to the on-screen looks but still feels a little too neat for the captain’s dishevelled look.

Usopp

The sniper of the Straw Hat Pirates appears in no less than three different LEGO One Piece sets, debuting a distinct outfit in 75638 Battle at Arlong Park, with the green hat and dual-moulded arms to show off the black T-shirt. In his other two appearances, Usopp keeps the same look, but with an admirable amount of printing across 75639 and 75640, even if there’s no dual-moulded arms.

Arlong

Arlong was always going to be a tricky character to recreate. The saw-shark fish-man’s distinctive nose wouldn’t suit a recoloured Pinocchio nose and would need an entirely new piece if you were going to render it in 3D, so it’s understandable why the LEGO Group chose to keep it printed instead. While it ends up looking a bit more stuck up than pointed, it’s an attempt that’s appreciated nonetheless for his only appearance in 75368 Battle at Arlong Park.

Chu

Also only featured in 75368 Battle at Arlong Park is Chu, the smelt-whiting fish-man who gets a slightly better representation, with oversized lips and unique face and arm printing. He’s a bit more of a brighter blue in skin tone than the live-action show represents, but it’s close to the anime depiction, so perhaps we’re blending inspiration here.

Sanji

Sanji appears as a minifigure twice, with slightly different looks for each appearance in 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship and 75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant. The hair piece is expertly chosen, matching his sleek blond look well, and the sassy smirk also perfectly matches the character’s live-action depiction.

Zeff

75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant features five minifigures that don’t appear anywhere else, starting off with Zeff, known for his excellent chef skills. The LEGO peg leg makes a return here, as well as a truly excellent hair piece for his no-nonsense haircut.

Vice Admiral Garp

Next up is Vice Admiral Garp, in full regalia. The use of a neck piece for his red shoulder elements gives them a little more prominence than they have in the live-action version, but it’s a strong recreation altogether.

Helmeppo

No one else can rock a haircut quite like that, in either live action, anime, or as a minifigure. Helmeppo appears in a simple outfit, complete with dual-moulded arms once again.

Koby

Also with dual-moulded arms, the pink-haired Koby captures a lot of detail through printing, down to the round spectacles and naval uniform. Although each character has its own unique look, Koby and Helmeppo fittingly look good displayed next to one another.

Dracule Mihawk

Last but not least, Dracule Mihawk cuts as striking a figure as a minifigure as he does in the show, with a torso printed with rippling abs and glowing golden eyes, matching his knife. It also looks like he has the same neck element as Monkey, meaning you could put his hat on his back, although it’s not 100% clear.

LEGO One Piece sets are available to pre-order now ahead of their release in August 1, starting from £9.99 / $9.99 / €9.99.
