Take a look at one of the first working lightsabers built out of LEGO

Star Wars fans for generations have carried a childhood dream of owning a real working lightsaber – and one YouTuber has made that dream a reality (sort of) with his replica LEGO lightsaber.

Using clear LEGO casing bricks, 1×5 LEGO Technic pieces, LED lights, and a customisable handle, Brick Science was able to recreate the lightsaber without having to drastically alter any of the LEGO bricks that were used.

By running the LED lights through the clear pieces, and making sure that the blade was sturdy enough to swing around, the lightsaber works with the LEDs, with the battery pack needed for them hidden in the handle of the creation. While other replica LEGO lightsabers are available out there, this one seems to be one of the first that has been made almost entirely out of LEGO.

Fans in the comment section of the video had some suggestions to add for the build, with Cread noting: “You could spin the lightsaber vertically from a motor in the handle to give it a cool effect.” Other fans seem to have begun thinking about other builds that could be engineered to a similar effect, such as ‘a LEGO [The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild] Guardian that can move and light up’, or ‘a Kirby (similar to the LEGO Warden in function) that has sounds’.

Brick Science, who has been making LEGO related videos on YouTube since 2016 and has over 779k subscribers to date, has other ingenious mechanical LEGO builds in his portfolio. These include a working Iron Man missile launcher and a model Minecraft creeper that can destroy itself with just the pull of a string, showing just how versatile a LEGO build can be.
