After more than a decade away, LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants is back with a bang– and it is packed with references to the beloved show.
SpongeBob SquarePants first aired on Nickelodeon in 1999 and has since grown into one of the most iconic and recognisable animated shows of all time.
With 27 years of history, the series has built up a huge fanbase, meaning the LEGO Group had plenty of opportunities to include hidden references for eagle-eyed fans to discover.
We have put together a list of 11 of our favourite Easter eggs hidden in LEGO Icons 11386 SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom.
DoodleBob

DoodleBob is one of the strangest antagonists in the series, and it is great to see him included here.
Created when SpongeBob uses a magic pencil to bring his drawing to life, DoodleBob has become a memorable villain not only in the show but also in video games such as SpongeBob Saves Bikini Bottom and Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition.
Realistic Fish Head

Bikini Bottom News’ lead anchor, Realistic Fish Head, famously appears throughout the show to announce the town’s disasters, which usually have something to do with SpongeBob.
The character, based on an Atlantic bluefin tuna, appears as a sticker on SpongeBob’s TV screen in the set.
Patrick’s TV

While on the topic of TV screens, Patrick also features a hilarious Easter egg.
His television appears to show nothing but static, referencing the Season 4 episode Bummer Vacation, where Patrick sits excitedly watching static on his TV.
Chip, Penny and Used Napkin

Back inside SpongeBob’s house, you will find Chip, Penny and Used Napkin – the objects SpongeBob pretends are his friends when he is too scared to go outside in the Season 3 episode I Had an Accident.
Squidward’s shower curtain

Our first Squidward-related Easter egg comes in the form of his shower curtain. In the Season 2 episode Squid’s Day Off, Squidward begins seeing SpongeBob everywhere, including his silhouette behind the shower curtain, only to discover it is actually the outline of a toilet.
The set recreates this moment with a sticker in the shower, while the inclusion of ink bubbles earns some extra bonus points.
Bold and Brash

Bold and Brash is a painting created by Squidward in an attempt to impress an art critic in the episode Artist Unknown.
The artwork features a strange caricature of Squidward missing two limbs and a mouth, and appears as a sticker on the wall of the set.
Sheet music

In the same room, there is also a sticker featuring sheet music for Squidward’s clarinet.
However, the notes are actually the music for SpongeBob’s nose flute solo from the end of the show’s theme song.
Bikini Bottom Buoy

The buoy that famously acts as the sign marking the entrance to Bikini Bottom appears as a small side build.
It is one of the most iconic images from SpongeBob SquarePants, so it is great to see the LEGO Group include it in a set where it could easily have been overlooked.
Jellyfish Fields

One of the most recognisable scenes in SpongeBob SquarePants is SpongeBob and Patrick heading to Jellyfish Fields to catch jellyfish and tickle them.
Like the Bikini Bottom buoy, it is an iconic part of the show’s imagery and a fantastic inclusion in the set.
Boat mobile

Patrick has his own boat mobile included in the build – a great reference to the show and a nice nod to the classic LEGO SpongeBob set, 4982 Mrs. Puff’s Boating School, thanks to its similar colour scheme.
Squidward’s lounging

The set also features a lounge chair on top of Squidward’s house, just like in the Season 2 episode Something Smells.
It is clearly a reference to the episode, as Squidward is also shown with a pink drink beside him.

There are many more Easter eggs and references hidden throughout the build, but these are just 11 of our favourites. There are likely plenty more that fans will only discover once they get their hands on the set.
