2024 LEGO modular building could be a chance for something entirely new

With the first sign of the 2024 LEGO modular building via a listing, there might be a chance to introduce something new to the range.

With 18 entries in the collection consisting of corners and straight buildings, it might be time for something entirely new in the collection, but something that the online community has already explored.

At the time of writing, there are 12 straight modular buildings and six corners. That’s not counting 80107 Spring Lantern Festival, 76178 Daily Bugle and 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum.

For those with the right layout, this won’t pose a problem. However, anyone displaying the full range on shelves is eventually going to run out of space and corners to wrap them around.

A new, inverted corner modular could solve this issue by offering more options for a modular building layout while giving the LEGO design team a different challenge to work with. It’s something that the online LEGO community have explored before, sometimes by remixing official modular entries including 10255 Assembly Square, 10224 Town Hall and 10264 Corner Garage.

A larger modular entry, which isn’t off the table in the future, means that more of the concave corner building still be on display. However, single-baseplate builds ultimately won’t have nearly as much freedom to showcase or experiment with exterior details.

A pair of custom creations from Will or legotothebeginning demonstrate just how much of an inverted corner modular is visible when surrounded on both sides by other buildings. However, it doesn’t means that there’s no room to experiment with interesting exterior details, even though they won’t be as visible on display.

Whatever the future of the LEGO Modular Buildings Collection looks like, a recent listing suggests that another entry is coming in January, though that’s not a huge surprise considering the annual additions to the range

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes.
