LEGO Ideas 21337 Table Football is playable, but not comparable

LEGO Ideas 21337 Table Football has had a mixed reaction with its high price but thoughtful details, leading to an indecisive slate of reviews.

At £214.99 / $249.99 / €249.99, 21337 Table Football is available now, though exactly who it’s targeting may still be up for debate. The online LEGO community, including Brick Fanatics, have gone hands-on with the build and overall, there doesn’t appear to be a majority opinion outside of the amazing minifigure selection. Some are quick to praise the play-focused build and others can’t help but consider how much a larger, and just as functional, football table would cost for the same price or less.

Needless to say, 21337 Table Football has proven itself to be one mixed model so here are a few more opinions from the wider LEGO community on this latest fan-inspired set.

It’s compact, but that’s an advantage

As stated in RacingBricks‘ review, LEGO Ideas 21337 Table Football isn’t huge for the asking price of £214.99 / $249.99 / €249.99 but this could be seen as an advantage. At nearly the same cost as 21335 Motorised Lighthouse, 21337 Table Football isn’t too much bigger than the rocky cliffs and baseplate, though the lighthouse stretches much higher than 21337 Table Football

However, that makes 21337 Table Football a lot easier to store and display. A smaller set takes up less room on a shelf or another surface and the size of 21337 Table Football could also make it easier to transport compared to larger non-LEGO tables too. Contrasting this, the reviewer explains, “The field is much smaller with higher walls so the visibility is somewhat compromised, you need to lean over the table to see the ball all the time.” Hopefully, you don’t have to lean enough to bump into the other player’s head.

It shouldn’t be directly compared to a football table

The LEGO Group hasn’t invented anything new with 21337 Table Football, as this miniature sports recreation was devised long before 21337 Table Football, though RacingBrick wonders if it’s fair to compare the model to other versions.

“I don’t think the LEGO version should be directly compared to full football tables. says RacingBrick This is something that you build from generic LEGO parts, it has a building experience, can be customised, rebuilt, reused, it is a whole different world.”

As different as 21337 Table Football is from other football tables though, it still comes in at £214.99 / $249.99 / €249.99.

“Granted, the build itself is very nice, but in the end it still is LEGO, and the play and endurance will never match real table football,” comments New Elementary. “I understand the need to scale down to a five-a-side format, but as many have commented already: for the price you can buy a full-sized real 11-a-side table football game as well.”

The minifigures (and extra accessories) are amazing

There’s one thing most of the reviews can agree on though, the 22 included minifigures (and additional accessories) are a highlight of 21337 Table Football. There’s enough hair and head bricks in 21337 Table Football to populate a small stadium and they can all be neatly stored in the bench build too.

“The minifig selection for the set is simply amazing, providing many new prints and recolours,” writes New Elementary “The only downside is that they come with a €249.99 set, making them pretty expensive if you want the set just for the figs.”

“Comparing the set to other miniaturized games, you can easily spend a lot less on a non-LEGO version,” explains The Brothers Brick, commenting on comparisons to other football tables too. “But then you don’t have the 22 minifigures and all the pieces and the hair assortment, etc.”

It’s sturdy, but for how long?

LEGO Ideas 21337 Table Football is undoubtedly focused on being a functional model over looking good, completely recreating the miniature football experience. However, there may be such a thing as too much play for 21337 Table Football.

As New Elementary puts it, “The axles, despite being shorter than the original design, still take a heavy beating. “Table Football is a game you can’t play well-controlled; at some point, you’ll become manic and fully focused on kicking the ball as hard as possible! So I suspect it’s a matter of time before I need to order replacement axles.”

Time has yet to tell if this will be an issue over repeated matches, but their photos suggest that with increased play, they may give way and lose their straight shape.

Summary

In short, 21337 Table Football is reviewed as being functional and pricey but with amazing minifigures. However, you might also be better with a certain level of love for LEGO as it doesn’t quite compare to a full-sized table for the price, though some argue that comparisons aren’t quite valid.

LEGO Ideas 21337 Table Football is available now for £214.99 / $249.99 / €249.99 on the official online store and with a free blanket and more for VIP members at the time of writing too.
