3,000-piece LEGO Marvel or DC set rumoured for summer 2023

The largest LEGO Super Heroes set currently rumoured for summer 2023 is now said to come in at more than 3,000 pieces – but there’s still no word on whether it will belong to Marvel or DC.

Initially included among a longer list of LEGO Super Heroes summer 2023 sets that surfaced earlier this week, 76262 is believed to retail for $199.99 in the US. Instagram user lego_minecraft_goat now reports that the model will include 3,128 pieces, which would make it the third-largest Marvel set (behind 76210 Hulkbuster and 76178 Daily Bugle) or the second-largest DC set (behind 76139 1989 Batmobile) by piece count.

It’s also said to be an 18+ set, as is to be expected with that many bricks, but still unconfirmed is exactly which superhero property it will draw from (if it exists at all). The safe money is, of course, on Marvel. All three of this year’s LEGO Super Heroes 18+ sets – 76210 Hulkbuster, 76215 Black Panther and 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum – drew from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while DC’s last direct-to-consumer product came in 2021’s 76240 Batmobile Tumbler.

There’s also the question of its price: $200 seems pretty low for that many pieces, already leading to speculation in the community that this could be a microscale model. Or the LEGO Group could be feeling very generous…

At the other end of the spectrum, 76264 is now expected to include 54 pieces for $24.99, planting it squarely in 4+ territory. These juniorised builds offer a gateway from DUPLO to System for younger builders, but their specialised, printed elements command high price tags. Finally, 76265 is said to include 357 pieces for $34.99, though again there’s no indication of what it will entail.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
