40417 Year of the Ox is back at LEGO.com for a limited time

The Year of the Ox isn’t over yet, as 2021’s Chinese New Year-themed gift-with-purchase has returned to LEGO.com in the UK and Europe.

The promo model was originally available in February with an £85 / $85 / €85 spend, and can now be had once more under the same terms – minus the USD figure, because 40417 Year of the Ox has unfortunately not returned stateside. (In fact, the only current GWP in the US is 5006293 Chariot, which has an eye-watering $600 threshold.)

You can read our review of the delightful freebie here, in which we noted its collectability will likely rise in years to come, given it’s part of a wider stable of Lunar New Year-themed promos. That assessment still holds true even while the LEGO Group has apparently found a bunch of leftover stock to hand out this month – not least because it has a much narrower window of availability this time round.

40417 Year of the Ox will only be available through the weekend, as the offer is currently set to wrap up on May 16. That date could yet change depending on how quickly stock is depleted, but we’ll let you know if it ends sooner or later than intended.

I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
