40649 Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure officially revealed

40649 Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure has been officially revealed by the LEGO Group, channelling this year’s LEGO House exclusive 40504 A Minifigure Tribute.

The large recreation of a classic LEGO Minifigure releases June 1 exclusively in LEGO stores and at LEGO.com. For a 600-plus piece set, it comes in at a reasonable price of £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99. The figure itself is a model of a rather simple-looking minifigure, but the basic color-blocked design highlights the iconic toy’s unique shapes.

Fans disappointed by the exclusivity of 40504 A Minifigure Tribute, a set only available at LEGO House in Billund, should be happy to see that this unique “mega-fig” style of set will be widely available.

This isn’t the first wide-release up-scaled minifigure set, though – 76393 Harry Potter & Hermione Granger debuted this style of buildable figure back in 2021. Although 40657 is a much simpler design than the original Harry Potter set, being able to get one large figure for a much lower price is an exciting prospect.

The official images reveal more of the figure’s functionality, like articulated legs and arms that let it move in the same way as its smaller counterpart. The figure’s hat can also open up to reveal a cockpit for the included minifigure – allowing him to pilot a giant version of himself.

The return of the “mega-fig” style of set could mean we could see more in the future, with lots of possibilities for licensed characters. Naturally, the opportunity for another Giant-Man like the one in 76051 Super Hero Airport Battle comes to mind.
