All 22 Formula 1 drivers will race in fully drivable LEGO cars ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix, following the success of a similar event at last year's Miami Grand Prix.
In the 90 minutes before the race at Silverstone on July 5 – which is scheduled to begin at 3pm BST – drivers from all 11 Formula 1 teams will take to the track in custom-built LEGO minicars.
Each team has its own vehicle finished in its racing colours, with the event replacing the traditional Drivers' Parade, which usually gives fans the chance to see all 22 drivers together on track before the Grand Prix.
This year, the parade has been transformed into a LEGO spectacle, with the entire fleet taking 6,400 hours to build. A team of 20 designers at the LEGO Group's factory in the Czech Republic worked on the project.
Each car contains more than 28,000 LEGO elements, meaning a total of more than 616,000 pieces were used across the fleet. The cars weigh around 280kg each, with approximately 65kg made up of LEGO elements, and can reach speeds of up to 25km/h.
The event follows the success of last year's Miami Grand Prix Drivers' Parade, which featured a fleet of two-seat, big-build LEGO F1 cars. Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan won the light-hearted contest.
Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer at Formula 1, said: "There is something truly special about bringing together the worlds of Formula 1 and LEGO play, combining innovation, creativity and entertainment in a way that can inspire and excite fans of all ages."
This latest collaboration is just one of many recent examples of the LEGO Group and Formula 1 joining forces.
The new 42240 Aston Martin Aramco AMR25 F1 Car launched yesterday, while 43017 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Oscar Piastri Helmet and 43023 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Lando Norris Helmet were released less than a month ago.
Fans in the UK hoping to watch the LEGO race – as well as the British Grand Prix itself – are in luck, as Channel 4 has exclusive free-to-air rights to broadcast the race live.
